It doesn't do you justice...........
I'm referring to HD television and the older actresses and news anchorettes.
I watch the news and the prime time tv programs which are presented in HD and I have to tell you, some of the women of advanced years do not look too inviting, what with all their sags, wrinkles and crows feet, I think it's time they might want to begin wearing a whole lot more make up or having face lifts or even donning burkas while they are on screen. Yes, the HD age is not being kind to these people so I guess it's time to sweep out the "old" and bring in the "new"!
Are you hearing the footsteps KATIE COURIC?

Re: It doesn't do you justice...........
I think on a personal basis, rich or poor, on tv or not...that women (or men) should accept themselves as they are when they age. Sure if I had the money I'd maybe want a boob lift or something after the having kids stage is done. Or, maybe a simple work on my teeth like getting a permanent retainer (just cuz I can be picky on how my teeth look at times... just a personal conscience thing I kinda have) but to expect women who doesn't do any change for themselves because 'others' think they need it. Maybe there's a reason behind it as in maybe they're happy with how they aged in life, they have other priorities to worry about rather than how the world perceives them.

I can see the teeth because the smile does say a lot. the celebs who do to much fix up are sometimes mor hideous. take care of themselves, excercise, be active, age gracefully. There is so much beauty in a confident mature person. Then again I don't sign their paychecks. Now gotta go late for plastic surgeon appt.

Re: It doesn't do you justice...........
My comments were aimed at the image that HIGH DEFINITION tv presents for the aging news anchoretts and tv actresses, with such a high premium placed on beauty with society at large. Why do you think that KATIE COURIC is showing so much cleavage? To divert my gaze from her aging facial features, that's why! If I were a CBS executive, I would insist that KATIE either have some work done, discontinue broadcasting her newscast in HD or can her and hire a younger looking anchorette.
Again, HD tv does these older women no justice. It's a hard fact to ignore, period!!Do you think I'm the only one with a HD plasma flat screen that sees this?
This is my opinion and does not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of WEBNAUGHTY!!!!

Re: It doesn't do you justice...........
I just saw something about this last week!
I think Sandra Bullock was being interviewed on Letterman's Late Show she was talking about how she didn't like that High Definition TV is so clear it shows ever little wrinkle and blemish that an actor has. But she had a sense of humor about it.

as an older guy, my thoughts are simple......who the hell cares what a news achor/anchorette looks like if they accurately report the news ? have we become a country that is THAT damned shallow that we are only concerned with "how we look"?

I guess with the high turnover in some stations, national and local news shows, it seems to me that they are definitly under the impression that we want our news delivered by only those we find "young and attractive"?
That should be, if not already...a very outdated notion.

Do what I do and listen to the radio, that way you can use your imagination to see what the anchors look like. The female newscaster in this area's am news station in my mind has a bit of a polished brit accent so I picture her to be Liberalwife

Sandra Bullock is my fav. Heard her interviewd once, she poked more fun at herself, she made fun of her small boobs, she was soooo cool. Bet she would be a blast to hang out with, even if she didn't hang out much.

yeah... look at Barbara Walters or some others like her kind... some of the brightest women around, and looks has nothing to do with it and look how far they've come to in their life.

Re: It doesn't do you justice...........
I'm not at an opposite opinion with you on this, BC69...this thread made me think of Gretchen, damn...she had so much respect and quite a following throughout her career until she was offered a lucrative deal on network, and she underwent facial recontructive surgery before going on air there...and we haven't heard from her since!!!
Of course I know who Barbara, Diane and all the others are, they are the women who have broken ground on the outdated notions that men news anchors when they age give off us sense of wisdom and reliablity, while the women anchors just got "old".....very outdated thinking....

Re: It doesn't do you justice...........
OH wow...I really need to correct myself! I was speaking of Greta Van Susteren, (Not Gretchen!) She left the CNN network to join the Fox news, I don't get Fox news, so if anyone can tell me if she is still on air, I'd love to know, I remember her from CNN and thought of her as an excellent journalist that just kinda got pushed aside to make way for the perkier and prettier Paula Zahn, (Paula is alright, but in no way is she one of my favorite female journalists, some CNN viewers might remember all this Paula crap, there were published and aired remarks about her being a "sexy" journalist and anchor...like that matters when you want the news reported!)
