Generic or Name Brand?
I heard or read something once that when it comes to prescription medicines and over-the-counter medicines that the active ingredients can be of the same quality for name brands and generics, but it's the inactives that can make a difference, that high quality inactives are important in the way and the speed that certain medicines are absorbed by your body, so there are name brands that are better than generics. I dunno, just something I heard once.
Do you notice any difference between them other than the price? Do you think generics really just as good?

Re: Generic or Name Brand?
I find for pain relief over the counter stuff, I tried name brand ibuprofen(advil) and generic, and the name brand provided more releif for a lower dosage. Might be able to chalk it up to mind perception though. One thing you can't control unless you are taking a blind testing.

Re: Generic or Name Brand?
I've noticed some difference too, Moriops...but I suppose it could be due to the quality of the inactives and active ingredients.
You'd think there would be some reasonable explanation for the huge price difference other than the name.

Re: Generic or Name Brand?
I wouldn't think that there would be a difference. As all the ingredients must be pharmaceutical grade quality. I think its more like, you have to pay for the name, and not the medicine.

Re: Generic or Name Brand?
it's over the counter b ut ClaritinD for allergies works wonders for me. Allergies can make me feel like a vegetable, I take Claritin and I'm a new person. The generic brand does nothing for me. They are supposed to be Identical but can't be , if they were they would both work.

Re: Generic or Name Brand?
Generics would run the name brands out of business if they worked as well. In my experience, they definitely don't! And you're absolutely right, pookha, that Claritin D is some good stuff. Something else you might wanna try is Advil Allergy Sinus.... You have to give the pharmacist some private info and show your license every time you purchase it... that whole thing about having to put it behind the counter because it was being stolen and made into some kind of street drug... Anyhow, it's worth it.

Re: Generic or Name Brand?
I do agree....the name brands can be worth the extra price, and I do believe that the active and inactive ingredients must be of a higher grade.
I may get pain relieve from some generics, but I have noticed more side effects from them too...things like a little heart burn, an morning after aftertaste, etc...

Re: Generic or Name Brand?
NAH, not Viagra. if I were going to take one , it would be cialis. They advertise a 3 hr erection. it tells you to call your Dr.. I'd call my Dr. all right, only it would be for more pills
I wonder what Dr. J's opinion would be on the problems with a 3 hr. erection ? Call the Dr. or not ?
