Acupuncture and pressure points..
I was just reading an article on the top 5 alternatives medical treatments that work.
Acupuncture tops the list, does any one here practice or use acupuncture, maybe tried it before?
I'm open to the fact that it does provide medical benefits...but dammit, all those tiny needles gimme the heebie geebies!
Here's the complete list of the top five medical treatments ...has anyone used any of these? I'm interested in the glucasomine for my old dog, he's having some joint problems.
1. Acupuncture
2.Calcium, magnesium, and vitamin B6 for PMS
3. St. John's Wort for depression
4. Guided imagery for pain and anxiety (Going to your "happy place" )
5. Glucosamine for joint pain

Re: Acupuncture and pressure points..
I think I would be alright if I didn't actually see the needles going in or see them sticking out of me..

Although...once....I accidently had acupuncture in my left boob...I was trying to carry too many potted cacti and one slipped and I remember I was tweezing cactus needles out of my boob for days...

Re: Acupuncture and pressure points..
A relative of mine was told by her doctor that she had endometriosis (probably not the correct spelling) and couldn't have children, after acupuncture and five years later, she's now expecting her third child.
I use self-hypnosis instead of a local anesthetic when I go to the dentist.

Re: Acupuncture and pressure points..
I have a herniated disc and accupunture works great for the pain relief. Don't want the surgery to repair it, I'll take those itty bitty needles that I can hardly feel over a scalpel anyday LOL

It's not really that bad you just need to relax and go beyond the pain, it's better than having a swollen mouth and spilling coffee all over yourself.

I have used acupuncture in the past. I didn't even know that they had put the needles in. As far it working, well not on me, I'm still smoking. I would use it for other things however.

Re: Acupuncture and pressure points..
I had a very bad fall down the stairs, the hospital did x rays and told me I needed an operation and I would have to take pain killers for the rest of my life.
Went to a fantastic chiropractor, who used manipulation and stuff, but then used acupuncture to redirect the pain routes from the base of my spine to my brain.
Since have this I have had no pain killers and can do lots of things I couldnt do before. Its fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone. The chinese have been using it for hundreds of years so they cant all be wrong can they?

I can go to my happy place for migraines and things such as that and it works really well. For things like the dentist I do stick to the locals 'cause I'm a big baby when it comes to pain...and yes, when I had my children I had medication for that...there's something about pushing something the size of a bowling ball outside of me that makes me say epidural.
