Unemployed!!
What's the unemployment rate like in your area? Are jobs scarce? Are there plenty of jobs but don't pay a decent living wage?

Re: Unemployed!!
Let's see.... we have 2 major gas stations, a grocery store, dollar store, fastaco, whataburger & subway (both inside the gas stations), the new sonic just opened up and we have a few small businesses on the old town square... Lots of jobs available for a small town. I'm not positive but I'd say that the unemployment rate here is fairly low... plus, a lot of people here commute to Dallas, Fort Worth or closer towns for work.

Re: Unemployed!!
Sucks around here. That is unless you have a PhD in something. We were a big town for industries like steel and cars both are not so good. New jobs are in medical and IT. Nothing left that pays well for the blue collar workers even the small business are dying trying' to compete with the big box stores and Wallymart etc. Gas prices are ridiculous as well as natural gas for heating and now the housing bubble has popped, folks just don't have the income to buy a house now that the lenders are not passing out loans to anyone...Yep it pretty much sucks

Re: Unemployed!!
Well when I get back from Afghanistan and I am done taking a break on my back porch, I know I will have to get employment else where. There are no job worth any good pay in our area of Missouri. I have been applying all over the country. Work during the week fly home or drive on weekends.

Re: Unemployed!!
There is lots of jobs around here, but they don't worth a shit, and the employers want those young kids. We are a bedroom community, so most people will drive the 30 minutes to 2 hours to get to work. But still, you need some type of degree to get your foot in the door. There is nothing for the average joe that has a high school diploma or even some college, unless you want to make 6-9 bucks an hour. Who can live on that? There was a lady from the east coast who went around the country to figure out what a real livable wage is for those area's. In my area, she found that for a family of 4, you would have to make a minimum of $14.00 to $16.00 per hour. That includes rent, car, auto insurance, food, etc.. But that also means no fun, no renting or going to movies, no eating out, and hope like hell that you don't need to repair your car. What's one to do?

Re: Unemployed!!
The job market here is fairly good. I have a position that is about to open up soon...evidently I'm hard to work for...I want my assistant to show up for work, I want that person to perform their job duities as assigned, I want them to not gossip and cause problems, I want them to do their work without me standing over their freaking shoulder all the time, and I have this really awful quirk about expecting accuracy...man am I a bitch!!!

At least that's only one person. I have to train an entire company to do things the way they should be.----
