retirement
After giving this alot of thought and talking to lovely people I wonder, if you could retire tomorrow, knowing that financially you were ok and your health was ok.
What one thing would you want to do?

Re: retirement
I said all my life when I retire I want to get a house boat or motor home and travel. Now I have been retired for over two years and have only been on the water one time. and took one 3000 mile trip from East Texas, to Pittsburgh, to Springfield Missouri, and back to East Texas but I did it in a week. Missed a couple of tourist shops.

Re: retirement
First, I'd stay home and get caught up on everything. Then after a month of not doing much of anything, I'd go visit friends, both from here and otherwise. Travel to places and take the time to explore them well.

Re: retirement
I would have passport in hand and be traveling like you have never seen before. I would even get a nice, large motor home, and just motor all over the US and Canada. This way I could do my genealogy right the first time, and get all the written documantation that is needed.

Re: retirement
Take it from the voice of experience, we too had those dreams of being able to take off at the drop of a hat, buying that dream cycle that my hubby had always wanted and wander across the country seeing things we've missed over the past 25yrs or just relaxing at a campground for weeks on end doing absolutely nothing. But dreams are just that..dreams, fantasies!! Don't waste time waiting until you think everything will fall into place and you'll have your health, wealth and freedom to do these things. It'll come back to bite you in the butt, retirement is not what it's cracked up to be. Live every day as if it will be your last, as I've recently found out, it just may be.

Re: retirement
a word of advice from a guy that DIDretire, make damn sure you have LOTS of money ! it was my intention to retire, work part of the time , and enjoy life. the problem was the fact that i got sick, was hospitalized briefly, and couldnt find anyone to take a chance on my staying healthy enough to work again. my retirement has become a terrible nightmare. good luck to the rest of you !!!

Re: retirement
I am retired over a year now and enjoying it. What i have enjoyed the most is being able to do the simple things. Time with family and friends has been the best. I am going to work again but only because i want to. If I don't like the job i'll leave it. I moved to florida so warm weather was my goal and as long as i have my health. I'm going to travel to places i haven't been. It doesn't have to be expensive. My problem is i retired early, my friends are all younger than me and work. Put me on a plane anywhere as long as i'm with friends i'm happy. Rather sitin a small town pub with friends anyday over a first class resort

Re: retirement
I would want to travel like I once have done, but this time stay longer and truly enjoy the town I'm visiting.
I would want to have time to visit old high school and college friends. Have the time to ride my bike across America and see the small towns.
And just be able to volunteer more or go to the beach and sail or surf the waves.

Re: retirement
I'd love to travel, go places I've only dreamed of. I'd like to visit Italy and spend some time in Tuscany...a dream come true.
I think when I "retire" I'll be hiking up mountains and looking out at the sea...now that sounds relaxing!!!
