Re: survivor man
I do prefer to watch "Survivorman" over "Man vs Wild" cuz Survivorman is truly alone and does he own camera work while man vs wild is accompanied by a crew.
Now "Going Tribal"....just love that show!

Re: survivor man
Yes, I like watching it since I've been through a few SERE schools and worked in a community that needed those skills.
For me, just stick me in a forest.
No open water (ocean) or arctic tundra, or barren desert.
Just the woods.

Yes I like this one too because he is truly alone and I guess the bug eating is just a way to survive if you have to it's a big learning adventure. I like to know what to do if I have to land in a forest because my plane fails. He did a show on this out in Canada with a plane and it was interesting how he use the plane to survive

Re: survivor man
Yes, i prefer "Survivorman" to the other guy too. he really takes lots of real risks, but he isnt the egotist that Bear Gryls. i dont think i would survive , just dont have enough skills.

Re: survivor man
I do like watching those types of shows. A lot of what they do, is just common sense. If it was me, I could do it, except for eating the grubs, bugs, and snakes. But I would be able to survive. Who knows, maybe I would like it and stay. You want to find me, come and get me.

Re: survivor man
We love Survivorman! Man vs. Wild is a joke. We saw Bear Grills break camp in the middle of the night and go running through the woods with his whole crew because of a raccoon that he thought was a bear. LOL!
As far what adventure we'd like to do? Anything with air conditioning and cable. Like maybe we'd try surviving in a living room for seven days.

Is this the same Bear Grylls in 'Born Survivor' the one who was in the SAS until he broke his back in a parachuting accident and climbed Everest at 23 years old?

Re: survivor man
Part of the SAS basic selection and training is survival in the jungle, in which they must survive for a week while evading a hunter force, if there are caught they are taken back to be interrogated using physical and mental torture. There not considered the best in the world for nothing.
Does this sound like the Bear Grylls on TV? then again it is only TV isn't it!

The Bear on TV "portrays" scenarios and how he would survive them, it's a good show for sure and leaves you with no doubt that the man is more than capapble of surviving anything.
The only fault with his show (Man vs Wild on Discovery Channel)is not him, it's the format that the producers chose for the show.
Bear is always with a full film crew, which means all conditions filmed have to be somewhat safe for the sake of the crew.
The show format for "Survivor Man" is that the doode (his name escapes right now) is dropped off in a remote area by himself and he carries his own camera gear and films himself. (He is "alone" but there is always a saftey rescue team near enough to reach him in case of a severe emergency)

Thanks for the info Chazzy, I'll look out for "Survivor Man" hopefully it will be available here soon.

Re: survivor man
I just had to google that one for a bit!
The best answer summary I found on the net is this copy and paste..
It's not all of the time, but it has been discovered that Bear Grylis was flown out on at least two occasions to stay in a hotel.
"An investigation by the U.K.'s Channel 4 found that Man vs. Wild host Bear Grylls retreated to a hotel room on at least two occasions when it was purported that he slept 'in the wild.'"

Re: survivor man
Have you ever found yourself watching Man vs Wild eating those bugs and yelling at the TV "hell man just get a granola bar from the camera man!!" or those times when he's building his little shelter amidst the rattlesnakes and wondering why oh why he just doesn't go back to that big RV with the crew and have a beer, play cards or go to bed???
