Bridge collapse in Minnesota.
My thoughts and prayers goes out to all those who have their lives impacted by this tragedy.
It gives me a little different perspective, since that is a bridge that I've traveled a fair amount.

This puts in mind of the bridge that collasped in Oklahoma. Although not of the same circumstance but the same results. I offer my prayers for the families and victims.

Re: Bridge collapse in Minnesota.
They just opened the new bridge near me, replacing an antique rickety mess spanning the Missouri river...the old bridge, as old as it was, seemed sturdy enough, but sure was scary to drive on.
It's frightening to wonder how many of our bridges, overpasses, etc....could be in the same condition as the Minnesota bridge.

Re: Bridge collapse in Minnesota.
Unfortunately life is just full of unexpected tragedies .....We can never predict what will happen to us, not to mention understand why these events happen, however my heart goes out to all of the people who endure any kind of tragedy or life altering event.......
As a matter of fact, did you happen to see the poor FED-EX guy that was caught under the bridge that collapsed?.....He is fine, but what a horrible experience!......

Re: Bridge collapse in Minnesota.
My thoughts go to those that got caught in this.
This bridge was deemed "unsafe" in 2005, so what did MN do? They waited 2 years to repave it, ignoring the safety.--only figures

Ok, so now they say that the bridge wasn't unsafe.
I know that I never cared for it's structure. Just didn't seem to be well built enough for it's use.

So, now they say that bridge was "structurally deficient" since 1990. Sure wish they'd make up my mind.--Of course it doesn't change the result.

If I read it right, that's when they did the inspection and was to do another check every 2 years. So... yeah... anyways.

I was worried about lonelyandhorny but he has logged into today, I don't know exactly where he lives in Minnesota, thanks for thinkin' about me..but i'm no where near that bridge...but i have sisters that live in the area, and they are all ok, as far as i know...i haven't heard from them personally, but mom has...it's a shame to hear about the fact that our state government knew that the bridge was "structurally damaged" way back in 1991...and didn't do much to try attempting to repair of prevent something like this from happening...a local radio station brought up the question of...what is our funding for roads and bridges being spent on?...not trying to cause ANY political uproar here...but this is a good point..

Re: Bridge collapse in Minnesota.
i heard that too..
the thing is...when the bridge was built....a bunch of ecologists were worried about damaging the river bed, so that's why they decided not to use a pillar system for structural support...hmmm, wonder what kind of damage was done when the river was hit by all those cars, and falling debris...

Re: Bridge collapse in Minnesota.
The Feds are now inspecting/ reinspecting all bridges in the Us of that type.
In other news? If you want to see where all those transportation dollars go, look at the billions spent on 494 and 694. While welcome change, it would have been better spent preventing what happened.

They won't know anything for sure, for some time yet. Right now they are only speculating. I wish that they would just keep their mouths shut until they know something that is definite.

Re: Bridge collapse in Minnesota.
That's for sure Fun. Sounds to me like the state is trying to avoid all the inevitable lawsuits.

Re: Bridge collapse in Minnesota.
The state knows that there is going to be flurry of lawsuites. Every company that has ever worked on the bridge is also bracing themselves for lawsuites. However the state is only liable for a very small amount of money in the way of damages, unless they waive their right to that protection. I don't remember what it is that they called it.
