proper hand washing..
hey guys?...(and gals)...how many of you wash your hands regularly after using the toilet? i think it's a little gross, but rather funny...there have been times when I've been in a public restroom, had a guy walk in, wash his hands, THEN go use the toilet...and then exit, with out ever re-washing his hands...now, tell me...does that make ANY sense?...and yes, being that i work in a kitchen, i am constantly washing my hands, in the restroom, and again in the kitchen hand sink...very serious consequences can occur if some one gets sick, from some one handling their food with unwashed hands...

Re: proper hand washing..
Ewwww! I know whatcha mean! I've worked in factories and I was amazed and grossed out by the number of women that do not wash their hands...which is why I never ever participated in those "pot luck" dinners at work, where these same women brought in food from home.

Re: proper hand washing..
I just started a new job in a production factory. Even with just doing the quality control work, I always come home filthy from all the dust covering everything at where I work. I can never get my hands completely clean and I wash them several times a day. The least of my worries atm is washing my hands after using the bathroom, which I still do.

Re: proper hand washing..
I agree Mooant, some guys get it backwards. I used to work for a clinical lab so I carry it one step farther. The last paper towel should be used to hold the door handle on the way out and tossed in the trashcan as you exit. A little hand sanitizer from time to time never hurts either. Just ask yourself, "What did I just touch?"....or the person who was here just before me?

Re: proper hand washing..
I am constantly washing my hands at work because I work with glue products. As far as washing your hands after using the bathroom, don't let me see you not do it! Now that is gross! When I use a public restroom, I'm a freak about it. Before I was my hands in one I always pull off the paper towels first then I wash my hands and use the paper towel to shut off the water and even use the paper towel to open the door. Then I toss the paper towel back at the trash can and hold the door open with my hip as I do that! When my dad was in the navy we traveled a lot so my mom carried a can of lysol spray and a roll of paper towels with us at all times. With 3 little girls guess she thought she didn't want to take any chances. She would disinfect the stools and everything else before we could use them. To this day when my hubby and I are out in the woods walking around I can't go outside! The thought of having any creepy bug or snake coming up on me gives me the jeebies! And not having anything to wash my hands with makes it even worse. I'm usually doing quite a dance by the time we get home!

Re: proper hand washing..
as many of you here know, i work with food, so i am constantly washing my hands...we are required by the state of Minnesota to wash them for at least 20 seconds, and wash up to our elbows...although i've never actually seen a health inspector check that. once, many years ago, i was employed at a local fast food joint, i was cleaning the bathroom, and a customer refused to allow me to wait on her, because her husband supposedly saw me leave with out washing my hands...not true...even if i did, i was CLEANING in there, so of course i washed them in the hand sink in the back of the place!!

Re: proper hand washing..
I'm not OCD, but I'm a stickler for the handwashing thing, especially in the kitchen, I see all those people mulling around in the grocery store...nose picking, ass scratching , sneezing, and coughing handling everything on the shelves...don't know who all has been handling whatever before they handle the stuff that ends up in my cart...I'm not a total germa-phobic...but I like to take precautions when I can...

Re: proper hand washing..
Whenever I take back my bottles and pop cans to the recycler to get my deposit back, I can't believe how many people leave there without washing their hands. I mean alot of them are not even rinsed out or are brought in by the homeless. I mean how clean can the place be? Even after washing I feel dirty. I usually carry a disposable towelette to help do the job and I usually refuse to eat until I'm clean.

Re: proper hand washing..
most people tend to think that when someone in the food business is not wearing gloves while handling food is unsanitary...WRONG...when someone who wears gloves finishes one thing, they often move right on to the next, still wearing the same gloves...where some one who isn't wearing gloves...they tend to wash their hands more frequently...many food safety experts will tell you to wash even with the gloves on wash the gloves also...

Good point! I worked at a food place once, it slowed me down some, but I refused to handle cash and food without handwashing in between....(cash bills and coins are definitly one of the most fithiest things on earth!)
