A death in the family
My grandfather, who was 91 years old has past away today.....As I sit here with tears in my eyes, I realize that he lived a long and prosperous life.....He was so well known in his home town that they even have a day that was dedicated to him, which is May 2 "Zip Day" ...(everyone called him Zip)
I can remember walking into town with him when I was younger and there wasn't one person who didn't stop us to ask "which one are you?".....And I would have to say Craig's daughter, with a grin. .....He was the Postmaster for years, and I would always go visit him at the post office and thought I was the "shit" because he was MY grandfather, and I could just walk right into his office with pride!
He was the oldest living member of the fire department and the lions club.....He was on every board possible, including the Board of education.....He was an incredible individual and well loved and admired in his town....
He had been sick for a few years now, dementia, so it is a bit easier to know he is now at peace....I am thankful for that, and even more so that I got to say good-bye to him yesterday even though he didn't remember who I am, in my heart, I know he knew I was there......
No real point to this post but to just be able to get it off my chest.....I might be away for a few days being that his wake will be days with all the people my grandfather touched.......
My heart breaks for my grandmother, who was married to him for 69 years.....However, she sounded much better than I expected......I thank God for that as well!
Its funny, this is the first place I turned to.....I guess I can say that this place truly is a part of my family.....
I love you Poppa, rest in peace

Re: A death in the family
I'm so sorry kitten, I know the feeling of loss well. I miss my own grandfather a lot. he was such a good story teller, true stories about his life & events he remembered, he was just good at telling them.. I used to love sitting there listening to him.

Re: A death in the family
Kitten it is difficult now but it Will be easier as time goes by. Focus on the memories of all the good times for all of those years and all the lives he touched along the way. My condolences to you and it makes us all feel special that you included all of us in your thoughts right now. I will include "Zip" in my prayers and light a candle for him today. I have experienced a loss earlier this year and I understand your difficulties. If you would like to talk, I'm here for you any time!

Re: A death in the family
Terribly sorry for your loss. I never had the pleasure of meeting my grandparents (they passed away before I was born). Would love to have had the nurturing experiences that somebody goes through when they have grandparents. Our prayers are with you.
