Fresh food Markets
Those fresh food Markets and whole foods are popping up all over the place, have you ever been in one? They have all kinds of fruits and vegetables from all over the world stuff you would never see at Jewel, piglywigly, Costco, BiLo, (I was gonna say WinnDixy I use to shop there alot befor they closed shop) Publix, Sams, etc. I mean they have some good prices at these fresh food markets, have you ever been in one?

Re: Fresh food Markets
I just have the farmer's market around here, no exotic nuttin'...just what ever the farmers bring to town, the usual tomaotos corn, string beans and such..fruit too of course, the 100 plus year old farm just down the road has a white peach orchard, the resident dropped off a bag to me as a neighborly gesture...they were the best!

Re: Fresh food Markets
This woman I use to go shopping with introduced me to the fresh food Market, one thing she liked there was the fresh coconuts, we bought one, when we got back to her place, she was totally amazed how I got the shell off the coconut with out breaking into the white meat part of it. I would take a small tack hammer turn the hammer sideways and keep steadily tapping the coconut while turning the coconut in the palm of my hand, approx 120 taps per minute, till it fractures and separates from the meat of the coconut then you can tell by the hollow sound and start to see the fractured parts start to separate and remove them one at ta time, we shopped together for two years and she would never had sex with me, said she did not like me that way. I loved that woman, and I was glad she introduced me to the fresh food store, I still shop there by my self now.

Re: Fresh food Markets
We have lots of farmers in our area that set up on the roadside. The closest farmers market we have that would have different types of veggies and fruits is an hour away. Seems like everything is at least an hour from us!

Re: Fresh food Markets
We have a farmers market festival here, area farmers bring in produce & jellies & syrups all week. The open street markets in the orients are a whole different thing all together. fish & fruits hanging with so many flies on them you can't even tell whats kind of fish you're looking at. I'm pretty sure they're NOT U.S.D.A. inspected

Re: Fresh food Markets
REALshedevil, you might have this going on in your part of the state too....pecans!
People are crazy(no, I WON'T say "nuts" instead)for their pecans.
Area people here crack 'em, bag 'em, weigh 'em and sell them everywhere, out of the backs of their trucks, where ever they can...same for blackberries...they grow everywhere here, but expensive to buy by the pint or quart already picked...allot of vineyards and wineries that also have roadside grape stands, or host "pick your own" days...

Oh yes Chazzy! Pecans are big in our area. Not hard to find them in our area. We do have some area berry patches too where you can pick your own. We used to have a local vineyard, but the man who owned it passed and his family didn't take it on. We sure do miss him. He was a good friend of ours and he would let us come and pick grapes whenever we wanted. He had the best grapes. They were pink grapes. His grapes were known for making great wine too. My dad has a grape arbor in his yard. They are the big purple grapes, just have to be careful how many you eat or you will get a tummy ache! We also have lots of woods around us and there are some awesome gooseberry patches in them! Now that is something that I absolutely love! Nothing beats some fresh, raw gooseberries. Or how bout some fresh rhubarb!

Re: Fresh food Markets
Gawd...everytime I log in here, I end up getting food cravings!!
When I lived way out in the country, I used to get all my fresh corn on the cob on my way home from the grocery shopping, just pull over and park, lean over the fence and grab a half a dozen ears!

Re: Fresh food Markets
My family used to put out a huge garden. When I was younger I really did enjoy picking fresh veggies out of the garden. My parents usually gave me the smallest container to use because I would eat most of the veggies I would pick right out in the garden. One of my favorite things to eat right out of the garden was peas. I remember my mom hollering my name and asking if I was saving any for the table.
