How do you Make Popcorn
I just made some, I got hungry looking at the movie line-up. I do it the old fashion way, I get a two quart sauce pan, pour extra lite olive oil, just to barely cover the botton, maybe two or three tablespoons, then cover the bottom of the pan with Orval Redenbachers yellow gourmet popping corn, put the lid on ot and let'er rip, when you cant hear'em poppin anymore, get it off the heat or it will be burnt,, Any one Want some? it taste pretty good.

I make it an easier way then that;
Take a car, some money, find a shop, pick up a bag, take it to checkout and pay for it. Get back in car, go in doors, sit down, open bag and HURRAY!!!
Sorry i'm not as good as you HH, not sure i could make my own.
It's great you do and yes would you be so kind as to pass me some to try

Re: How do you Make Popcorn
I only know how to do it because thats the way my perents did it, we did not have much money, even when we went to the "Out Door Theater" we would make our own popcorn put it in a brown paper shopping bag, and a pitcher of coolade, and took it with us, we use to eat are little hearts out when we had to go pody up at the concession building and we could smell and see all the hotdogs, candybars, fudgcycles,,,then we would just walk back to the car,, ,,,,I'll never forget those days,,,but we always had fun, then on hot summer nites at the out door theater, people would be sitting on the tops of their cars in lawn chairs,, try that now on some of these cars the roofs would buckle in.

Re: How do you Make Popcorn
My mom would only use vegetable oil. She said that olive oil, no matter how virgin, gives it a tainted taste. Vegetable give it no extra flavors at all...
While I'm at it, she would shake over the open flame and when she was sure it was almost done, she would open it and it would fly all about the room. My sister's and I would dance around while it rained fresh popcorn...

Yeah, I found that out too, you cannot use virgin olive oil, it has to be extra light olive oil, I think it is like the third pressing/squessing of the olives, it even looks and taste like vegetable oil and is made for high temperatures. Like you say, the regular virgin olive oil will turn rancid under high heat.
I know that all of the oils contain 14 grams of fat per ounce, but the olive oils and grape seed oil is least damaging to the arteries. grape seed oil cost a small fortune.

Hell Yeah,,,use to like to watch the tin foil puff up,,but not any more, I think jiffy pop still uses hydroginated oils which is a no-no in my house. I check all food lables for everything, I am a stickler about growing old gracefully,,,

Re: How do you Make Popcorn
We used to make Jiffy Pop and used to pop it in a pan too. Now we just used the microwave kind. Guess sometimes our lives are too busy to stop and smell the roses. Hot thanks for this post. Sure brought back memories of popping corn over the stove and all of us kids watching and waiting for it to be done.

Re: How do you Make Popcorn
It has been quite some time since I've heard popcorn popping in a pan. My parents used to just throw in butter in the pan and let it go. Interesting, I've got some good ol fashioned popcorn... (not the microwavable or jiffy pop stuff)... just the popcorn itself. Just might make it now that I'm thinking about it!

Re: How do you Make Popcorn
I like to take the microwave kind out of the bag and pop it on the stove. I like the convenience of having it all ready to go, and just drop it in the pan. Like the taste better from it.
