Texas Flooding...
Whoa, I do have people in that area, what a mess!!!
It's creating quite a hardship on the folks there...
I'm hoping our Texas members are not in harms way, or suffering from all this.

Re: Texas Flooding...
Talked to them yesterday, they are safe...but there is a "toilet" situation going on there, they have porta potties set up everywhere, board of health has everything shut down, and it's hard to get anywhere to get provisions.

Careful what you wish for... Wasn't it just last year, we heard complaints about no rain in Texas and now they don't want it to rain in Texas anymore?...

Re: Texas Flooding...
June 2007 goes in to thr record books as the 2nd wettest June in Dallas since records were kept in the 1800's. To put this in perspective it has rained even more in every direction from Dallas. All of the lakes, which were getting very low, are full now so the problem now is that additional rain will cause problems because there is no place for the runoff to go. Some areas, like Marble Falls are struggling but getting some aid from the state and the usual providers with a Disaster Declaration in place for approximately 50 counties. A bill is circulating in Congress and please note that FEMA aid must be requested by the State. My understanding is that the request is made and waiting for funding from Congress after the disaster bill is passed. Too much bureaucracy involved, as usual. "Nuff said" about that part of it. I'm saying prayers of thanks that this area has been spared for the most part. And we all need to say a few for all the people who have been out of their homes for over a week. We have a 60% chance of more heavy rain for the next 2 days at least and the 4th may still be a little damp too. Can there be too much of a good thing?

Yes, GG, we complained about no rain last summer. We were under a terrible drought. But you know what? I honestly don't think I've ever seen any other state with such diverse weather as Texas. It's either at one extreme or the other. Very rare to see any middle ground.
I know, I know.... you want to say, "why don't you move?!" Well, Texans are stubborn that way. I won't argue with that. You either love it here or you hate it. I happen to love it and couldn't see myself living anywhere else. We may bitch about the weather but we always pull through.
I do think it's very sad that people are being killed in the recent flooding But a lot of deaths are preventable. The "flash flooding" that we have gotten in the past month+ have caused trailor homes to drift from their foundations in the rapids, killing people that way, without warning. That can't be helped! But letting your kids "oooo and ahhhhh" at the rising water under a bridge then having them fall in??!! In most of these cases, the parents were nowhere in sight! That part enrages me to no end!!
Anyhow, I'll step down now, sorry... lol
I hope everyone stays safe! And be CAREFUL!

Nope, wasn't going to say anything about moving. I was going to say, "You guys don't do anything small, do ya?" (lol) I know how you feel about the weather. Over here, lately, we haven't seen the four seasons, only two (winter and summer). (lol) Oh, and while I'm at, foundations for trailers? I don't know about trailers in Texas but up here they're on wheels...Hence the name, "trailers". (lol)

Re: Texas Flooding...
I live in a tornado area, I'm not moving, you can't outrum or hide from Mother Nature, she's everywhere!
Even here Moon, with some of our small streams and rivers, there are deaths from flash flooding and too many could have been prevented.
