Tabloids at the check out lane!
Just for kicks, how many of us buy and read a tabloid?
I've never read one, have no idea what they are like.
I'll be in the checkout lane of my local Walmart, and look over and see a half a dozen of these mags...and I look at the headlines and big photos...and always wonder the same thing week after week..."Who the hell are these people?"
I swear, unless it's Dolly Parton, I don't recognize any of these people...or who they are dating, who they are suing, who's suing them for whatever, etc...
The same thing with TV shows about Entertainment gossip...I don't watch them, there's only a few shows TV shows I watch regularly at all so I have no idea who these people are on the entertainment shows! Okay, I know who Brad and Angeline are, and the Baldwin and Hasselhoff doodes are, and the bad girls, cuz they all make the cross over into my regular daily news.
I guess my love for documentaries keeps me out of the loop...
I catch my local and national news everday...and the occasional PBS "Frontline"...and unless a celeb shows up there...I have no freakin' idea who they are!

So are there any tabloid headlines that you can remember seeing while waiting to check out at the register?
Hey...one said Dolly was an anorexic! Pfffttt! She's always looked healthy as horse to me! Boy, where do they come up with this stuff, eh??

Oh oh oh!! I just love the ones with the really "out there" headlines! Stuff like "Photos prove Aliens are living on earth with us" or "Lizardboy found living in remote Amazon area...half boy half reptile"

Wonder where they come up with this stuff eh?.. perhaps "Lizardboy" has come to town and has been running the Enquirer incognito??? (That would explain alot)!
Headlines I remember?... not exactly. But I do remember their general format... Puke Puke n Puke... while Puke Puke n Puke! That's about it really!

The tabloid display rack is kinda cool when you're waiting in line with others while the cashier is waiting for the current customer to count out a bunch of pennies or they have to run a price check on something.. often those ridiculus headlines and faked out photos will start a fun conversational exchange...joking and laughing is better than impatient huffing about!
But come to think of it...I've been in allot of check out lines, and to date, I can honestly say I've never seen anyone actually buy one those things.

Anyone I've ever talked to has said the same thing.. they never know anyone that's ever bought one. If I ever were to see someone buy one... I would ask them why they were buying it for sure! Perhaps they would have a bird at home, and the store would be out of cage lining materials??? Whatcha think?

Just maybe, no one buys their copy at the same place where they do their regular shopping, so they won't run into people they know, and their favorite or regular cashier won't know about it either...maybe they buy thier tabloids somewhere no one will recognize them, and anyone I would see buying them at my local market, won't be a local person, but someone from another neighborhood or town, incognito even!

I see them but never really pay attention to them any more.
But yes i have had a few funny conversations about the pics before. They are just way out there.
But there are those that just can't miss a paper.

having worked in the grocery business (long ago) i learned then to place the tabloids at the check-out counter. they are there as a "impulse buy" item. my only question was, what type of impulses do ppl have to read that garbage ?about the only good use of them is to line a birdcage.....lol

My hubs and I have laughed out loud at some of them. Some of the pictures on them sure do make you take a double take!

Buyer profile: little silver-blue haired ladies with a current copy of TV Guide, People, and 23 bingo markers in her purse. Looks about furtively, folds it in half and hurries thru the automated lane at Walmart then leaves promptly before anyone who knows her notices her purchase.

Suddently remembered! I once worked with a woman that bought them , brought them to work to read during her lunch break....when she would comment on something she was reading, people would say "You don't really beleive what they say in that rag do you?"...her comment was always.."It must be true, they couldn't print it if it wasn't true!"

I remember when we used to go visit my Grandma, she always had them around. Sure is not much of a difference today from the ones that they used to have. My Grandma said the same thing Chazzy! She just knew it all was true!
