Do you?
Do you give blood? And do you think it should be compulsory to do so?
Also do you think it would be a good idea to have a data base with all our blood groups, so if blood was needed, a hospital could contact you.
Do you carry a donor card?
I do give blood and would be happy to be contacted to give blood if it mean't saving someones life.
I also carry a donor card and would if, god forbid i lost one of my boys, allow their organs to be used to save another child.

Re: Do you?
I do carry a donor card from when I was in the military. I am also listed as a organ donor on my drivers license. I have not given blood in a long time. I even have the universal blood type of O+.

Re: Do you?
I have been donating blood regularly for a year now,for one thing it is suppose to be good for males over 40, it reduces the amount of stored Iron in the blood which can cause heart problems in males.
Strange thing, when I first started donating blood, they told me that I tested NEG. for CMV (Cytomegalovirus) they said I would be a excellent source of blood plasma for cancer and organ transplant people.
according to Life Source, supposedly most people are Positive or have antibodies for CMV by the time they are teenagers.
The way they get the blood plasma, they hook you up to a machine and drain/recirculate all your blood out like a refinery, then pump it back into you,,,I watched them doing it to a women then when she got up she was dizzy almost fainted,, so I am leery of that,,plus I also have diabetes,,,but they keep asking me to do the plasma thing every three months that I donate whole blood there.
I also have Organ Donner marked on my Drivers license. I do not think it should be mandatory that everyone give blood, for one thing I do not work in the medical field where they probably talk about or feel that should be the norm, and also this is a country of choice, not force, but I do think they should educate people more over the TV about why we souled donate and who it helps, they would probably get more donors that way.

Re: Do you?
I am a blood donor - but I get refused as often as I give because my Iron level has to be a certain level.
I am an organ donor because it is so very important and really the last gift you can give to civilization. (Read My Sister's Keeper to give you something to think about).
Lives can be saved and I know that in a time of need American stands up --- Just think about the Hurricane tragedies. Blood services were backed up with all who were donating.

I am an organ donor, on my license, but I don't weigh enough to donate blood. you have to weigh 110 pounds, and I rarely top 105.
besides that...I'm scared of needles....

Re: Do you?
My "Thalasymia" (I don't think I spelled that one right) prevents me from donating blood. It a genetic blood disorder that strips my blood of iron. When I give up a pint, I pass out cold, and it takes days if not weeks, for me to come to. This could have been a good one for the other thread- "I'll never do that again"
I'm already an organ donor...I gave the neighbor my "Werlitzer" just last week...
