Folk Art
I love it! Anything from large dinosaur sculptures in a backyard made from auto parts, to detailed little carvings and "whittlings"..
Just the pure and honest (and usually very color full) expressions of someone who has never had any training, doesn't care about any rules of color or perspective, doesn't even care if others like it or not...it comes pure from the heart and imagination, and the people that create it seems to get something very mystical from it.
Is there any of these "artists" in your area, or that you have ever run across?
I've seen beautiful large portraits and paintings made from rusty bottle caps. Hand carved duck decoys, unusual "totem pole" types of carvings, etc...

I love it all...but I truly love the folk art landscape paintings...they are usually so bright, full of sun, and activity!

Re: Folk Art
OMG... You just reminded me of that stupid thing my buddy sold a few years ago. He took an old refrigerator door and glued some of his daughters elbow macaroni designs to them. Sold this thing at an art auction for $497! People will buy anything these days...

Re: Folk Art
Wow!! A fridge door with macaroni for that price?
There's use to be a guy, (He died last year, bless his heart) that was considered...well...eclectic? Anyway, he would wander around all day, picking up all kinds of materials that were being thrown away, and kept adding and adding on...till his "house" was all built from leftover constuction stuff, and common things people threw away...
Quite an interesting place to see!

Re: Folk Art
I used to do wood carvings when I was in high school, I even made some descent money doing them...
I should get back into that stuff again, it was fun.
