Father's Day Gifts
With today being Father's Day, it made me think of things in the past. When I was younger, me and my 2 sisters would always get our dad clothes for Father's Day. One would get a shirt, one would get a tie, and the other one would get the pants. The thing was we never went together to buy them, so we didn't know what color the others were getting. One year my dad ended up with a purple striped shirt, green dress pants, and a red tie. Our mom was so shocked when he opened them and he said that he was going to wear all of them to church that day. She told him there was no way he could do that. He told her there was no way he was going to hurt any of our feelings by not wearing them all. Our dad got dressed and came out with the biggest grin on his face. All of us girls just smiled and were very pleased. As we walked into church that day our dad definitely turned some heads. When people told him how nice he looked our mom just turned redder. My sisters and I were so proud because he had the new clothes on. Heck we were young and we didn't care that they didn't match.
With all of this said, how many of you dads have gotten things for Father's Day that maybe didn't match, but went ahead and wore them anyway. Now come on, tell the truth.
You gotta love dads!
Happy Father's Day to all the great dads on here!

Re: Father's Day Gifts
My dad is color blind so Father's Day or not he never matches...we've come to expect some really interesting combinations.

Re: Father's Day Gifts
My father is just horrible to try and buy a gift for....he's so totally unselfish, never wants anything, never asks for anything....his birthday is coming up, I'm hoping in the mean time, I can find him a killer birthday gitt...but he sure is a bugger to shop for!

Re: Father's Day Gifts
I gave my dad a card with the most wonderful words and i put some money in it, as he doesn't really need anything, so i told him to buy himself and my mum a nice meal.

Re: Father's Day Gifts
I spoke to my father on the phone, we aren't especially close, he basically ditched us after he divorced our Mom. I've always tried to see him on Father's Day but this year I couldn't bring myself to do it...especially after he didn't phone one time to check on my sister's and I when our Mom was sick.

Re: Father's Day Gifts
We went and had a bbq with my dad today. Nephews and nieces were there as well as our kids. My dad is so hard to buy things for as well. Ended up getting him a nice card and a rug for his front porch that says wipe your paws.

Re: Father's Day Gifts
My dad's birthday is June 22... Fathers' day (as you know) is always somewhere between June 15 and June 21. He was the kind of guy who never really needed anything... and there are five of us kids. So it was very tempting for us to all go in together and combine gifts...
On the one hand, it meant we could get him some really cool stuff. On the other hand, I always wonder if he minded???
Probably not. I don't think he was the type to want more attention than he got... But a few years into our mutual adulthood, my siblings and I decided that if we wanted to go in together on a gift, it should be either for Father's day or for his birthday, but not both.
Since then, I've got siblings-in-law and more than one godson/nephew with December birthdays, and their parents and/or Significant Others have laid down the law about combining holidays.....

Re: Father's Day Gifts
Unfortunatley, my father was taken in an auto accident when I was a young teenager. So I just enjoy my kids now on Fathers day. We went to see the movie Surf's Up today, and I never laughed so much watching them take this movie in... It was such a delight.....

Re: Father's Day Gifts
I work every father's day, so I don't get to do anything with my kids or my dad.
