Own, rent or lease
What things do you prefer to own, rent, or lease?
Own a home, that's good for me...reponsible for all the maintenance though...rent DVD's and movies cuz once I've seen them once I'm done with them.
Own the cars, but would consider leasing..

Re: Own, rent or lease
I own my home. I lease my soccer mom-mobile (mini-van). Gotta watch those miles though! My wife owns her 2002 Saab 9/5.
I own a lot of dvd's but rent ($1/RED BOX) most movies. I too watch them once and that's it.

Re: Own, rent or lease
I own a couple of houses, and i own my car, but i have thought of financing one and you change it ever two years, so you pay less a month. I buy new cars about two three years and you lose so much money on them when you trade them in.
I rent dvd's and buy them.
Love to be able to rent a horney vampire, not sure where i'd go for that!!!

Oh yeh. buying a new car every two or three years leaves you "upside down" financially. With the trade in allowance on a two or three year old car,the trade in allowance is usually 20% less than the actual market value, which means you'll probably owe more on your trade than the dealer allows you toward the new car.
In a lease deal, all your doing is "renting" the vehicle for the term of the lease. At the end of the lease period, you throw the keys on the dealer's desk and walk away clean, assuming you have not exceeded the allowed mileage, usually 10k to 15k per year. Overages usually range about 15 to 20 cents/mile.

Re: Own, rent or lease
Ive always owned where I live. Paying rent is throwing money away. And as far as vehicles, I always lease. Im self employed and it works best for me. I dont get depreciation surprises due to periodic economic conditions and Im always under warranty.

Yeh FREE, the lease deal works great for me too! I always lease for three years and I put less than the allowed mileage on my vehicles. The bonus being, my vehicles are always under warranty.

Re: Own, rent or lease
I prefer to own everything I have. Leases to me are paying rent, plus insurance and repairs [for vehicles] on something that I'd still have to buy.
I could rent a vehicle for my business, but that's not an option now since my truck decided to keep some more of the money I havn't earned yet.

Re: Own, rent or lease
Right Now I rent my house, since we are probably moving, I don't have to worry about trying to sell it. My motorcycle is mine out right. My car I own, as long as I keep making payments. I am considering leasing another vehicle for Ma, she doesn't drive very much and with the lower payments it would make more sense. I can't lease a car for me, I drive 25K+ every year.

Can you rent a woman? I certainly don't want to own one and leasing one means that you're stuck with them for at least two years too....
