Frivolous spending
What do you do when you have a little extra burning a hole in your pocket? What do you like to buy that's just a bit frivolous?
I'll sometimes pick up something from a local antique shop, or maybe a few perennials from the local nursery even though I really don't know where I want to plant them yet...and a Pier 1 import store is a great place for a few impulse buys.

Re: Frivolous spending
SHOES...wait those aren't frivolous, they are necessities, right? OK, maybe my shoe habit is a bit on the frivolous side but each and every one of them means something different to me...LOL...I like purses too but they can get really pricey so I try to splurge on those a little at a time...perhaps it is a leather thing...

Re: Frivolous spending
only thing that i really feel i "impulse" buy is cars. i'd need about 10 acres just to gather them all in one place.

Perhaps we can split that down the middle and build a big closet for my shoes on one half and your cars can reside on the other...the only time the two will need to meet is when there is a need to put my foot on the gas!!!

Re: Frivolous spending
Lately, it's art glass, I really love Blenko but haven't found any locally yet within my budget....and when I can, I do some frivolous shopping on ebay for antique carved shell cameos, I have such a passion for the cameos!

i wish i had enough money left after bills and child support to spend frivolously, i guess the only real thing i buy frivolously would be lottery tickets...and video games for my ps2...

Computer parts and programs mostly... Last week it was batteries, the rechargable kind, for my wireless mouse. It'll be nice not to have to run out to the store anymore to purchase any more of those alkalines that don't last very long...

Re: Frivolous spending
Oh I hear ya hon! I'm pretty much dirt poor all the time, but those rare, rare times when I can spend a little, I go for the antique cameos and art glass...then sadly...if I get into a spot, I know I can list them on ebay and get more than I paid for them, if I should need a little money quick, and I got to own them for awhile anyway!

Re: Frivolous spending
the one thing I like to do about every 3 months, is go to a local auction house, and look at the Jewelry. My 6 year old daughter has more diamonds than my wife did when she was 18. I do try to get enough to go around to keep every body at ease......LMAO....

Oh, Chazzy, I love cameos. This should be one for my "Got Away" post but when I was in Boston many years ago I was in a little shop and they had the most beautiful blue based cameo, I was in the process of buying a house and couldn't afford to spend an extra dime toward anything, and I couldn't put anything "substantial" on my credit card so I let it go. I've never seen one like it since then and have always wanted one...

I'm so fond of them! The carved shell ones...I had one of the "three graces" or "three muses"...and I'm certain my first husband pawned it, I was heartbroken over losing that gift from my Aunt and I've been buying them every chance I get since then and I'm still looking for a "three graces" victorian one similiar to the one that was pawned behind my back all those years ago!

Re: Frivolous spending
I will depart the world of shoes, handbags, jewelry and the like for true "geeky" stuff....radio equipment! I'm looking forward to the second weekend in June. A State Convention of Ham Radio operators will give me an opportunity to buy a few pieces of history and maybe a new transceiver. Truly frivolous and lots of fun. Anybody need a few vacuum tubes for an old radio?

Re: Frivolous spending
I have an old code that has been pased down and burned into me from working hard all my life in construction and as a youth comming from a large family with very little to spend. And it goes like this: Do I really need it? Or Do I just want it???? Some people believe frivolous spending is a sickness, like gambling and overeating, I kinda think it is like love in a way, if it was not dealt with as a part of your youth, you crave for it the rest of your life. I have found that learning to view money as a tool, and finding ways to make it regenerate is far easier than figuring out Love.

I will keep an eye out for one, I have seen ones with Greek style ladies, but none three on one cameo, also, I will look for Blenko glass for you, since Blenko is in my hometown and we are supposed to go to our family reunion in July.

Re: Frivolous spending
The three ladies are usually called "The three graces" or "the three muses"....Faith, Hope, and Charity...My dear (now late) Aunt gave me a huge antique brooch of them when I was a teen, but I married very young, and the husband I'm sure pawned it for something stupid...
I wore it allot, and one day I went to get it...and it was just gone...broke my heart!!

Anytime darlin'...I am a sale fiend. I rarely buy anything at full price, that is why I can shop so much. I hate pressure buying like when you NEED something for an occassion. I'd much prefer to catch something marked down and have it in my closet ready to wear when I need it...
