Year of the Cicadas
It's the year of the "17 year cycle" cicadas !
Within the next few weeks, they will emerge from the ground and take over many areas.
Will this flaunt of nature affect you in your area?
They happen in huge numbers, and once they start their mating rituals, they got sooooooooo loud!
But I figure, it's cool, it's only happens every 17 years!

I think that is an awesome sound. Love to sit outside in the evening when this happens and listen to the sound they make.

Re: Year of the Cicadas
When I was a tiny child, I use to always be amazed when I'd find thier "shells" clinging to trees, shrubs...

Re: Year of the Cicadas
My sisters and I used to make necklaces out of their shells. We thought they were so cool. lol Now that I'm older it sounds kind of disgusting. Having bug shells around your neck.

Re: Year of the Cicadas
They're supposed to show up in serious numbers starting this week here in Indiana & nextdoor in Illinois. Great fishing bait for bass & crappie, but the "din" can be almost deafening!
Wish they DID eat mosquitoes Juils (and woodticks for that matter) but they don't eat during their adult stage. They just f**k & die. Not a bad way to go I guess.

Re: Year of the Cicadas
I love them, grew up with the sound of them, so the sound is a comfort to me, kind of like a fan droning at night.
Don't hear them much down here, but every once in a while, I will find a shell for one, looking kinda lost and lonely.
