Re: Fuel Cost!
Gas is going for $2.98 per gallon in my area right now.
I try to limit my driving to a short trip to the market once a week, if we run out of something in between trips, tough shit...

Re: Fuel Cost!
Gas is $3.10 in our area right now. Is killing my hubby as he drives 50 miles one way for work. Have gotten several emails saying that today is the day to boycott buying gas. If it gets any higher, I wonder how in the world people will be able to keep up with it.

2.99 in my neck of the globe. They tell us that we are bellow the national average, Please. I'm in the same boat as SheDevils hubby, 40 miles one way which usually adds up to about 35 bucks a week. Damn!

Re: Fuel Cost!
Gas is $3.09 today, and $3.19 about 25 miles from here.I got an e-mail saying to keep buying gas but everyone get it at the same place and pass the other places till they lower their price, then go there till the next place gets lower and so on,start a gas war where you go to the lowest place and buy their gas,but that might not work because I think most fuel places are owned by the same co.

Re: Fuel Cost!
Well I bought a Diesel a few years ago, because Diesel was always cheaper, but it is as high as gas now, but cost way less to produce. What the hell is up with that. I would have to say RAPE, the gas companies should be brought up on charges......

Well, if you want good fresh oats you gotta pay top $$$. If you don't mind that they've been through the horse once you can get them a little cheaper.

Re: Fuel Cost!
Not sure about that, HH, but Murphy's gas is always the cheapest around here. 2.99 in my neck of the woods. First they say it's gonna go up in August..... reaching nearly 4.00 a gallon here... then they say it'll go down to around 2.75.
I think we need to give all of these petroleum bigwigs a gasoline enema and light a match!

Re: Fuel Cost!
Just went up again here, now $3.29 a gallon! I worked at a service station when I was younger and we didn't raise the price until we got a new load of gas in and was charged more for it,now they raise it when ever they feel like it! What can we do about it!Nothing unless we can stop using it.

Re: Fuel Cost!
They refreshed the public's memory about chemistry the other day. Gasoline expands when it's hot. Fill up in the early morning hours when it's cooler! You may be able to find the story on a news site... it makes perfect sense to do that.

Well Moon, if the storage tanks where above ground, I would probably agree with you. But since the storage tanks are below ground, the gas stays at a pretty constant temp. It will heat up only after its been in your tank for awhile.
OH yea, the price of gas here has been around $3.20.

I figured that would be the case too but it's not. From what they said about it, they were talking about trying to pass a bill to make all gas stations regulate the temperature of their gas. They say it's not practical or economic (they=the stations themselves)

Re: Fuel Cost!
Remember that guy who told us to not buy gas on one day about a month ago? He had the right idea, but he had us attacking the wrong target. Now this will start to make sense for some, but what we need to do is stop buying items from big businesses that require us to drive there. If you damage, let's say, Walmart's profits for instance, you can bet they will go to bat with the oil manufacturers if we stopped buying things from Walmart because of the price of gas. Now some folks are saying, "but everthing is cheaper there!" Well, now figure in the price of gas to your total and those savings aren't as good as the old mom and pop stores, we used to buy our stuff from. If it cost you an extra twenty dollars in gas to save two dollars on that gallon of milk, where do you think you'll go to buy it next time?...

I heard on the news the other day that Wal-Mart and other places sales are down!and just think what it's doing to the Auto Dealers trying to sale new cars and trucks that don't get good fuel milage it's going to make them lose more also,so it's going to hurt alot of people, and the cost of food and every thing else is going to go up!I don't know what low or fixed income people are going to do?

Re: Fuel Cost!
I was on Coronado island (not really an island-just over the bridge across the bay from San Diego) today. It's kind of a resort town for vacationers. While at a stop light I glanced over and noticed the price for regular = $3.75. Yes, almost four friggin' bucks.
Around where I live it's more like $3.53.
Like that's much better!!!

Re: Fuel Cost!
I've often wondered why it is [ even before prices went up ] why it is I have to spend more on fuel than many earn in a month.
I filled the truck here in PA. The total cost was over $712. More than some people earn in two months.

Actually, the cost for refining deisel is the about the same as for gas. The new "ultra low sulfer" diesel has made the oil companies spend several billions of dollars on the equipment to accomplish this. The addition to the refinery for this is as large as the refinery itself.
