Little Gestures
I think a gesture is not so much the size it's who it comes from and for what.
I helped an old lady who took ill in our shopping centre a few weeks ago,I took her home in my car and phoned her son for her.
When he arrived I recognised him from our local pub and 2 days ago the lady turned up with a bunch of flowers out of her garden. No cost to her but the gesture really touched me, just because she had tended them herself and picked them for me.
Anyone else had a little gesture that meant such a lot?

Re: Little Gestures
My neighbor across the street is 87, always in her yard with her flowers. But I scoop the snow from her drive & carry off broken tree limbs when the wind breaks them. She always tries to pay me, but I refuse it. One day I got in my pickup & she had put a 12 pack of bud light & a 15 dollar check there. Another time she brought me over a big bag of chex mix she made. A sweet little lady.

Re: Little Gestures
My Mom will be 88 in July and lives independantly. She has a lot of neighbors just like NRG that pick up limbs and help out with her large yard. The young couple next door have almost adopted her. They check on her every day, bring her food they have prepared frequently and do the little "fixes" homeowners have to do for her and mow her lawn. She wants to pay them but they always refuse. Her recourse has been to put a bottle of wine on their front porch with money wrapped around it then call them on the phone and tell them she noticed something by their door. A Hispanic family about 3 houses down invites her to all the parties and celebrations at their house. They have 7 kids and lots of grandkids so this is frequently and everybody calls her "tia" (auntie). She told me that even though her Spanish is not good she really enjoys all of the fun and food and has a great time. None of these in itself is a major deal but it makes me happy that her neighbors care about her and these gestures are what life should be all about for everyone of us. Kinda reminds me of this diverse "family" we have going here! Thank you for always being there.

Re: Little Gestures
When I went to India a couple of years back we spent a couple of days in a mountain town called manali. There were a group of kids there that shined shoes all day, some orphaned, all homeless. But anyway i sat down with em for a bit during my free time, ended up playing 'it' and things like that with them and they were the most decent kids ive ever met. I gave em all some money and stuff and i thought nothing of it. The day i was due to leave i was kinda bummed, was going to miss them and i brough my bags out to our jeep and they were all there waiting to say goodbye. They had all made me either a bracelet or a necklace ... Brought a lump to my throat, they were just awesome

Re: Little Gestures
It's a way of life here where I live, and I do so love living here!
It's common when in a checkout line at the store, and the person with a overloaded cart remembers they forgot something important, We'll finish loading their items on the checkout belt to be rung up while they dash back and get what they need, or to just patiently wait and assure them that a few more minutes spent waiting on them certainly won't throw the earth off it's axis.
We don't harass farmers on their tractors when we end up behind them on the highway by honking and tailgating, it's only a few minutes more of our time.
We help mow lawns when a neighbors rider mower is being repaired.... again.
You can't pop up the hood on your car without people stopping to make sure you're alright and if you need anything at all.
The neighbors always think of you when baking a favorite pie or cake and are so happy to share a slice or two with you, and harvest time, it's common to step out and find that someone has left you a bag of tomatoes, cucumbers, sweetcorn,etc....on your doorstep.
