The Queen in America!
I married into a Brit family and they're a bit excited about the Queen visiting here, wow...does that woman have some kinda hat collection or what?
Anyway...we just seem to love her to pieces here, maybe it's just nice to see someone who knows how to carry herself with dignity and grace, and dammit...I do love the hats!

Re: The Queen in America!
A friend of mine, a former LONDONER, once told me that the MONARCHY of ENGLAND should be cut loose and they should not receive another freakin' cent from the government!! His words, not mine.
He said that the KING and QUEEN along with the royal family, are nothing but leeches with no power to represent the citizens of the UK nor are they empowered to negotiate with any world government. They are nothing but celebrities.
I have to agree with him.

Re: The Queen in America!
Well, I was kinda thinking more along the lines of the two cultures of America and UK, since most of our active members are USA or UK...and not so much the politics of either...
...and I still really like her hats!!

Re: The Queen in America!
I think the Monarchy is more about pomp, circumstance and tradition...all countries have their royalty of some sort (USA's royalty are sports figures that are paid too much, politicians that are likely crooked, and actors & actresses that are worshiped and glorified for doing their jobs), each culture's royalty reahes a prestige that everyone wishes to gawk at.

Re: The Queen in America!
You are right VB, the Queen has no say in politics, however, i think she can step in if she really feels strongly about something. I do like the royal family, i do feel in the past they have made other members lives miserable, Diana and Sarah Fergusion, they are like a mob family when it comes to outsiders!!!
I feel it's time for some young blood, the Queen needs to step down soon and Charles should also step aside and let William do his stuff. He will make a great King.

Hey HOT, from what you hear, is WILLIAM a freakin' party animal or what? A real ladies man? Is your opinion possibly based solely on the fact that he gets your panties wet? Seriously though, does it really matter who the f**k the king is?
The ROYALS are no better than anybody else! They're petty and as phony as our HOLLYWOOD wannabes! If they hear that they're special enough times, they start to believe it......F**k 'em all

Thank you, thank you Hotbubblegum! I loved reading your reply.
It was positive and upbeat and on that note, I'll add that there is just something fascinating and romantic about the British Monarchy! It's so rich in history going back thousands and thousands of years.
Over here most of our history is really only several hundred years old...over in the UK, the history goes back so much further, it's so much richer, deeper and diverse, and just about everyone living here, has ancestral ties to England/Europe...so your current Monarchy, really does have some very personal ties for so many of us here!

Re: The Queen in America!
Thanks Chazzy, i do love history and the Kings and Queens is something i enjoy the most, the castles and stately homes are excellent. The Tower of London is an amazing place packed full of Royal History.
I do have to say VB, Prince William is a real cutie, but he hasn't managed to wet my appetite in that way!!!

Re: The Queen in America!
I can't imagine anyone not loving a castle!
HGTV did like a two hour show called "Keys to the Castle"
I watched every bit of it, all that splendid history being told by Ladies, Dames, Dutchesses, and Lords ...all descendants of the original owners.
It was so interesting having them take you on a tour of all the ancient battle ramparts, original moats and towers, all the centuries of stories!

From what I can gather, the two boys don't appear refined enough to take over the symbolic position of king in your country. That's just my observation.
How do you feel about either one of the two boys ascending to the throne?

I think both of the boys are just that, boys, but they have been trained their entire lives, steeped in tradition and character, they are no different than any other single, young men across the world. When the time comes for William to take the thrown he will face it with serious compassion and respect. His mother may not be here but from the time that boy was born he was raised to be King and I believe he will do a great job.
Honestly, seeing William and Harry leading rather normal lives doing what other humans do make them a little more civil in my opinion than the monarchy of the past. The charity work done by the Royals is wonderful and while you may see a great deal of pomp and circumstance it is good to have tradition.

I think William will make an excellent King, he is down to earth and wants to make changes. He will make the government uneasy, as he will want a say in how his country is run.

Re: The Queen in America!
I know you'll bite my head off for this but HOT, why does the UK continue to pay the ROYAL FAMILY 100's of millions of $ every year if they are nothing more than a facade for days of the monarchy? Don't they have enough freakin' money already? WTF do they do to earn all that loot?
Please 'splain to me where I'm wrong about this! I don't get it......

... I don't get it......
I kinda doubt that you ever will "get it" hon...
I'd rather a Brit explain it, but I'll give it a try.
The Monarchy, of course, is inherited through bloodlines, there is a crown, and thousands of years of their history says this crown and position will continue to be passed on.
I think it's fantastic that a huge, huge piece of such an ancient, colorful and rich history still exist. Yep, the "working" part of this Monarchy has changed and evolved, and will certainly continue to.
I just hope I haven't embarrassed myself too much trying to explain this, or worse yet, offended any Brits.
Anyway, the way it looks to me is that the British "G" and the British Monarchy are pretty much two separate things, with a little overlap here and there.
So maybe, VB...if you take your focus off the British "G", when you think of the Monarchy, it might help you understand it a little more.

I'm not gonna bite your head of VB, and i can't explain why, i don't agree we should pay them as they have their own money. They should pay their own way like the rest of us, but i suppose it's the way it's always been, so us poor peasants have to lump it!!!
The main Royals do a lot of stuff and some do great work for charities. Then there are the lower Royals who are just hangers on, who do nothing for the country at all.

This is commonly known as manners here in the UK, VB, it applies to all females and not just the Queen, and I also noticed on the news that Bush sat down BEFORE Her Majesty .. ,,,tsk tsk!!...How very rude.!!

I must agree that the 33rd in line for the thrown should likely get a job...I also agree that Charles should step aside and let William be King...I know a number of people have come to like her but Camilla as wife of the King does kind of make me feel all yucky...sorry for those that weren't fans of hers...Diana would have been so lovely in that role. Even after all these years since her passing I just loved her...I think it was the mischievous look in her eyes and that incredible smile.

Just another few useless Royal Etiquette facts for ya's.

1. You don't actually shake old Queenies hand, but just slighty brush touch it.
2. On meeting, a male must only nod his head, and NOT move his body.
3. A female should do a proper courtsey upon meeting.
4. You must NEVER turn your back on her.
5. It is considered rude to ask if she has birds nesting in her hat.!
And finally.....
6. You must never fart before her - UNLESS, it is her turn.
(Okay - so you might have guessed 5 and 6 are false - I just made 'em up.!)

Re: The Queen in America!
Did anyone catch the TONIGHT SHOW last night? It showed the QUEEN rummaging through her purse, apparently looking for something while BUSH was speaking. A cut away showed a gloved hand moving among items in the purse (a package of condoms, half-pint of JACK DANIELS, a tin of SKOAL, a HEAD-ON applicator, when finally she finds what she was looking for. Her pink RAZOR cell phone was ringing, so she turns it off!
Freakin' hilarious. Watch next Wednesday morning at 3am to see the replay of that particular show.

I also loved Diana and Fergie is great, the sad fact is, there was the chance of us having new blood in the royals, two down to earth fun gals, and their lives were made hell. The only good thing is that they both had great kids who behave how any other teenager/young adult behaves.

I was supposed to get to meet the Queen (or Charles and Camille) at a horse event here in Virginia, but the bitches all went home and we're stuck going to an unroyal horse event.
I knew there was a reason we revolted way back when.

Hey PLEASANT, maybe you dodged the bullet after all. You could have instigated an international incident by mistaking CAMILLE for one of the horses!
