Stompin' Grounds
How far away from "home" are you now, the area you grew up in?
Did you move far away, or do you still live nearby and see allot of the people you knew then or went to school with?
Do you attend family reunions, or high school reunions?

Re: Stompin' Grounds
Way far away. I grew up in Wva, moved here whn I was 18.
Met Warren, who is actually from the same area, lmao, and we do go home for family reunions in the summertime. His family. Not much left of mine and I don't get along with them anyway.

Re: Stompin' Grounds
We live where Ma grew up. She runs into some old friends every once in a while. Her family doesn't get together for anything but funerals. I live about 14 miles from where I grew up. Yes I married someone from my rival school. Every once in awhile I'll see some of kids that I graduated with, but not very often. Both my parents have moved to this area from 100+ miles away, so there is no close family here, but we do get together about once a year.

Re: Stompin' Grounds
I guess you could say that my stomping grounds is where we finally ended up when Pops retired from the military, (Southern Oklahoma). When I left for the military I swore I'd never come back. But here I am and I am glad I am here. The sad thing is..."You can always go home.....but you can never go back"

Re: Stompin' Grounds
About 20 miles away. I do get back there about one a year, just driving through. I'll visit the little general store to buy some of their world famous cheese. My last high school reunion I attended was my 25th. Do I miss the town I grew up in? Nah, not really!!

I'm right smack dab in the middle of my old stompin' grounds. I'll never leave this place and I'd never want to!

Re: Stompin' Grounds
I'm on opposite coasts. As in the West coast v. the East coast.
Yes, I keep in touch with a 1/2 dozen or so HS friends and another 1/2 dozen or so college friends.
I do go back when I visit my parents and try to see them all.
I did attend my 20 yr HS reunion.
And speaking of HS, I still keep in touch with one of my HS teachers! My last time I visited her we talked for over five hours. I owe a lot to her - especially her confidence in me and guidance.
I had planned on going back in two weeks while catching Myrtle Bch Bike Week, but plans have now changed.
But, I don't care to go back to live there. Visiting is fine enough for me.

Like Moonhowler, I'm right in the middle of where I grew up, Although I lived & graduated in Norton Kans, I ran around in Beaver City, just across the border. After the Air Force, I moved back to be closer to my family that I never got to see much of while I was flying jets.

Re: Stompin' Grounds
I live in the town I graduated from high school, until Mom passed away she lived in the house I grew up in, my best friend and I have known each other since fourth grade, my girlfriends would walk through fire for each other (and sometimes we have), everytime I go to the grocery store I see someone I know, my daughter's PE teacher was my high school English teacher. There is still a small town feel here without being part of the big city...I work in the city and my life has taken me to the far ends of the US and this to me is home. I plan my high school reunions and we have girl weekends...growing up we weren't those bitchy girls, we encouraged each other and lifted each other up to be better, stronger women...I've thought about leaving many times and I know that if I do, this will always be home!!!

Re: Stompin' Grounds
I'm pretty close to where I started, about 30 miles away. I moved around a lot until Jr. High when we finally "grew some roots". The area I grew up in has changed radically and now is no longer a "safe" place to visit. I keep in touch with a few high school friends via e-mail and just attended a 45th year reunion (yes there are people that old on here). Kinda sparse, about 100 people out of a graduating class of 1100. My Mom and my kids live within a 10 mile radius and other than my time in the Air Force (touring beautiful SE Asia) and four years in the Philippines I have lived in this area most of my adult life. Plenty to do around here and I believe we are now the 4th largest metro area in the country.
