Re: Motorcycles
I bought a new 1997 Vulcan 1500 it was actually a 1470 or something but they called it a 1500. What are you thinking of buying one ? I had it for close to 5 yrs. that thing was fast, I think in 98 or 99 they pinned the crank shaft so they would lob (vibrate) and sound like a Harley. The pre-98's had a higher compression ratio also, Its a strange thing but Kawasaki (contrary to the Harley) is all made in the USA.

Re: Motorcycles
yeah i am thinking of it... except i havent kept up with who makes what or what is a good bike etc anymore. i was actually shopping for a honda (which i have had excellent luck with) and seen a vulcan and it just felt so much more comfortable and i like its looks better too... not to mention a new one is still half the price of a used harley. LOL
not so interested in speed.. at least it doesnt top the list. i'm more looking for a good reliable cruiser i can run all weekend with out needing a back brace the following week.
HH would you buy the bike again??

Re: Motorcycles
Hey BCB you may wanna ask brit about that one he's really into motorcycles like that. There are also different sites on the net that allow you to compare different bikes against each other. I hope this helps. Wish I could help but I'm more into Harley's, or vintage bikes.

Re: Motorcycles
kawasaki make excellent bikes, i used to own a ZXR1100, which was a bit of a speed demon, but very reliable, now i own a honda fireblade, which is also a bit of a speed demon, but its probably the most reliable bike i have ever brought.

Re: Motorcycles
You might want to try looking at Yamahas. They have some really nice 1100 and 1300 cruising bikes.

Re: Motorcycles
I just bought a 1500 Drifter, a.k.a as the Indian Clone, and I love it!!!! Not only for it's retro style but for the fact that it's low maintenance. The 1500 is fuel injected, that eliminates carburetor adjustments, and is shaft driven, and that takes care of having to mess with chain adjustments and other related drive train problems. They stopped making the 1500 Drifter in '05 and the 800 in '06. But the Nomad and the Classic are basically the same just different styles.
I looked at the Yamaha Silverado purely for the way they are accessorized and price. I also looked at Harley and damn near bought one. Pricing, the fact I am not that mechanically inclined when it comes to motorcycles and overall ride is the reason I didn't buy a Harley.

Re: Motorcycles
Bcb, I would buy another "Kow" just for the fact they are well balanced, have a low center of gravity, comfortable to sit on for long periods, look really nice and do not need lots of maintenance. I like the Honda also and it seemed comfy to sit on in the show room but I never took one for a long ride, The Harley seemed to bulky and heavy for me especialy when you come to a stop and are starting off from a stop. plus all the guys I know that have one are fixing them all the time or taking them back where they bought them because something is always gone bad and needs warranty work, then its wait for parts etc,,,,

I've read where the new HD are getting better. And I don't mean to sound as if I was "slamming" HD.

Re: Motorcycles
Agree. A bunch of friends I ride w/have HDs. they seem to be much more reliable than they were from the 60's and 70's era. Once the Evo engine came out, things started getting much better for them.

Re: Motorcycles
You all know we bought a Harley in November. A 2007 Sportster 1200. I Love it. We added a backrest and have gone on several long rides.
I love the shimmy of the engine, which is noticeable, but has an almost comforting feel to it. You'd have to ask Warren about the technical side of it, as I'm not too mechanically inclined, lol.
As for cost, well, we were looking at first at buying used. The salesman told us that we could buy a brand new one for the same price and it would have all of the guarantee, which covers everything.
He was right.
I would not say I would never buy another type, but I truly prefer Harleys.

Re: Motorcycles
Yeh Pepper, I have an ol g/f who loves to grind her hips into the seat when she rides. Tells me there is something about feeling the road - yeh right!
I told her about a product called the Vibe Rider.
Look it up.
You may have another reason to ask Warren to get the bike out for a short ride.

You just need more practice to help your remember the technique. I'd be happy to volunteer my time all in the name of education of course Ok so maybe I could use a little practice too!
