sloppy seconds....
How do you think you should feel, and how do you really feel about your best friend or a family member that does date or want to date an ex of yours? Would you expect an open discussion from them first? Would you be able to tell them honestly if you felt uncomfortable about it?
(When I say date, I mean anything from casual sex to a serious relationship)
What if someone close to you broke up with someone you are wildly attracted to or always thought could be your true soul mate? Would you go for it, or just figure there are billions of people in the world, why go for the one that could complicate allot of lives?

Re: sloppy seconds....
Life is too short to worry about the small stuff. If that is what one wants....."Git after it" Have fun and enjoy. Face it everyone is someone's "sloppy seconds" Don't ever turn anything down, unless it's face down. 'Sides you'd just go through life wondering what if.....

Re: sloppy seconds....
Even if it would damage a family relationship or a decades old friendship ?
For me, there would be very few exceptions to my personal rule of never getting involved with a best friend's ex.
If someone wanted to date a recent ex of mine, I would accept the responsibliy as mine, to do the right and big thing and get over it if it botherd me at all. But that might mean a change in my relationship with the one dating a recent ex.

Re: sloppy seconds....
I think a conversation would be appropriate. I think that time is the key here. If it has been a year since the split a conversation and then go on with it...if it has been two weeks you may want to consider the exes feelings a little more closely.

I'd tell him to go ahead and wait for him to whine about her treating him like poop.

Never really had that problem. My friends and I like different types of guys. Even if that was to be a problem, I know I'd want to have talked about it prior to.

Re: sloppy seconds....
I'd never want to date or have sex with any of my good friends 'cast offs'....I would much rather go catch fresh bait from all those other 'thousands of fish in the sea'.
Besides,,,,i am so close to my friends, that I know there must be a damn good reason for them to ditch them in the first place !!
As for a family member ..ugh,,no way ! Knowing a guy has already shagged my mother,my sister, or (worse still) my brother....is a definite no-no for me!!
That said,,,,,if either, my friends or one of my family wanted to get involved with any of my exes, i'd have no qualms whatsover....that's entirely their own decision.
Just out of curiosity, for you males out here.... Could you make out with a female who your father or brother has previously had?

Re: sloppy seconds....
Definitely not a girl after my brother or Dad, regardless of how long ago it may have been.
here's a story:
I'm visiting my Dad some years ago. He lives near the beach in the Carolina's. He's out running some errands.
And this hotty comes walking in without knocking. About late 30's. Daisy duke shorts, a halter top. Ample chest
I'm looking at her like:
Her hair is messed up like she just got out of bed.
Anyway, she looks around and asks for my Dad.
So I say, I'm his son. Who are you?
You know what she tells me.....
I'm dating your Dad!!!
Almost choked on the apple I was eating.
Now, she's in her late 30's. I'm in my 30s. And Dad is in his late 60's!!!!
So, she leaves and later Dad comes back. I told him she dropped by and guess what.....Dad wants to show me pictures of her in the nude and all.
Just couldn't stomach that!
