Sweet stuff...
What is one of your, or what are some of your...sweetess childhood memories...makes us go " Awwwwwww that's so sweet!)
One of mine is my very first eastet egg hunt, I was such a tiny shy child, and when they blew the whistle to launch the egg hunt, all the older agressive kids pretty much got everything, but I was thrilled with my two marshmallow candy coated pastel eggs I managed to put in my new basket.
While we stood there, waiting for the announcement and prize reward to the one kid who found the golden egg, a little boy next to me, a wee little boy my own age, noticed I only had those two little candy eggs in my basket, and when I would look away, he would grab candy out of his basket and slip it into mine, I didn't notice right away, till I saw the faces on all the surrounding adults, including my mother...eyes were shiny and glazed with tears, big smiles, some jaws dropped in disbelieve that a child that boy's age, understood a concept that they often forget themselves. Mostly...I remember that beaming boys face, when I finally looked into my candy heaped basket.

Re: Sweet stuff...
Wow Chazzy, that's going to be hard to compete with...
I guess one of my favorite childhood memories was when it was coming up on my 5th birthday and my Mom kept telling me that I couldn't have a party that year, I was really sad. So, on the day of my birthday I went off to school and my Mom picked me up. I knew Mom was planning to fix me my favorite dinner and that she had probably made me a cake (you know the old fashioned box cakes...LOL). When we arrived at the house I walked in and there were streamers all over the kitchen and there were my two older sisters and about eight of my little friends there...I'd never even heard of a surprise party but I was certainly happy to know about them.

One of my sweetest childhood memories, and has now became a tradition in our family. My Mom always made special sugar cookies at Christmas. She would let us help her cut them out and bake them. Then we would get to paint them with icing. I have started that with our granddaughter, great nieces, and great nephews. I always end up having a house full when I do this. Sure keeps the fond memories of my Mom alive.

this will always bring me back to the first man on the moon. july 21, 1969 - playing in the back yard with some friends while the parents were inside watching tv. we could actually see the tv from the patio. right when they landed we all gathered in the patio to watch. afterwards, we resumed playing in the yard. this is when i noticed the moon in the sky. i stopped my play and stared at the moon in awe. i stood there for a while feeling a connection. i always wanted to be an astronaut, now even more so.

I remember being only 11 or 12 and hiking down to the elementary school to watch my best friend play baseball. He had tried to teach me but I was only good enough to hold the radio and call out the scores. It took every thing we had to hold hands. It was sweet and innocent and still a time when I felt everything was right in the world.

Re: Sweet stuff...
Ahhhhh, it's all sweet stuff! Surprise parties, wanting to grow up and be an astronaunt, first love and baking cookies! We have the great memories, but I wish we could still have those great feelings that only a child can have!
I remember fondly, the very first time, the decision was made that I was finally old enough to stay out after dark and play kick the can, and hide-n-seek with the older kids!

Remember catching lightning bugs (fireflies) and Popsicles in the summer from the ice cream man...late night hide and seek...the taste of water when you came in from an afternoon of playing tag or swimming pool...

4th of July...when you were too little for firecrackers and bottle rockets, they gave Sparklers, and those little black pellet "snakes".

One I remember is waking up one morning and seeing my Dad standing by the doorway. He had just returned from Vietnam. Of course all I remember is seeing him and not knowng why he had been gone for so long! I was very young then.
From then on he would watch Disney with me on Sunday evenings and make me cinnamon rolls.
I love cinnamon rolls!!!!

Re: Sweet stuff...
My first pony and puppy, i had begged my parents for a pony, i was 9, i had been riding since i was 3. They said i could only have a puppy, they brought a jackrussell home, he was great. That afternoon, still sulking as i wasn't allowed a pony!!! i went over to the stables to ride my friends pony, when i noticed a new one in a stable. When i walked over, there was a big note on the door, saying he belonged to me. I cryed!!!! I had them both for 15 years.
