self taught....self made...
Anything you have learned on your own, that you think you do as well, maybe better than a trained schooled professional, some one with degrees and certification?
Things like cooking, learning a new language, computer skills, something you do as a hobby...or maybe remodeling your home gave you carpenter skills, plumbing knowledge or interior and landscaping design skills?
Maybe you've researched something so much, you could teach a class on it?
Maybe you learned a family business?

I've learned allot of the program "Microsoft Word" on my own, but I'm bookmarking allot of tutorials online to learn more about using Word, and Excel, and a few other programs.

I have a passion for playing music. Play the clarinet. We had several homeschool kids in our community and their parents wanted them to be able to learn how to play instruments. I decided to give a try to teaching the kids. Little did I know the variety of instruments that I would be teaching. The kids started telling me what they would like to play. Only instrument I knew was mine. lol I ended up teaching clarinet, flute, trumpet, saxophone, and then I started taking piano lessons, so I started teaching basics on that. Has been so amazing because now I know how to play all of those instruments.

I wish I could play an instrument. My brother plays guitar and I tried it for awhile but I just could not get the hang of it. I write lyrics though and have been wrting songs for several years now. I guess one could say I taught myself how to write them.

I was a self taught drummer and guitar player. I, at one time able to read and write music. I've been away from that time of my life for so long (35 years) that I would need a lot of refreshing to have it all come back.
I also was involved in video as it pertains to weddings and such. I just did a few for free, picked up some tricks along the way and then started charging for my video services. No one taught me, I just figured out how to do it. There are some guidelines to follow as it concerns weddings but I think it was a certain state of mind and confidence I developed. I gave up the video service phase of my life about 1998 because I spent way too much time on it and my wife gave me the choice of quitting or losing her.
I made the right decision!!! :rock on:

I learned to bow hunt & use game calls & even track game. I also learned to fly aerial stunts on my own. Although I learned the maneuvers in the Air Force, they were in Jets, I learned how to thrill the audience in my Spitfire on my own.

i've pretty much taught myself everything i can do (with the exception of going to school for one thing i dont do anymore)... and i have taught here and there in the past.

I use to like flying, and wished I could, especially ultra-lights. But would love to fly in a Spitfire or Mustang.

Actually taught myself Computer repairs and Basic networking...Even got certified..Damn...My value grew immensely and I have a good rep with my company...Can't knock it! Self-Teaching! Actually make $3.00 more an hour because of it. Won't fire me anytime soon

My best skill, honestly, is training others. I'm training a new assistant and she said in the last month she's learned more from my style of training than in any other job she's ever worked for...my style is based on motivation and self-empowerment.
I feel like the more time I invest in someone on the front end the longer they will be with me and I will somehow be able to mentor them into their next step career wise. 99.99% of training someone is giving them positive reinforcement and support...negativity breeds contempt. Give me someone with a positive attitude and I can teach them the basics skills.

I'm self taught in pretty much anything I have a passion for. I started my own company in 1993 from nothing more than an idea. No plan or instructions to follow, just a desire to make it successful. I love to cook also and can honestly say, Ive never followed a recipe, just blend, and re blend different ingredients until I get to the taste that I want. Last year I put together a book of 50 or so recipes and handed it out to friends and family for Christmas. I figured people could make the food themselves and quit asking me to cook for them. It didn't work! LOL!
I'm also a self taught guitarist/singer/songwriter. I have 3 CD's of my favorite songs that Ive written. I wrote one song for my daughters that we played for my oldest daughter's wedding for the Father/Daughter dance. At the bridge of the song, I signaled for my other 3 daughters to come up and join us on the dance floor. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. It was one of the best times of my life!
