DNA database..
Just for the sake of catching felons, violent repeat criminals, or the prevention of crime...should there be a database of everyone's DNA, or should it be only voluntary for us, and mandatory for those being charged and booked, like fingerprinting is?
Would a DNA database for everyone be just a little too much of a creepy "big brother" deal? Or do you think that it would be productive move towards a safer society, and if you're worried about your DNA being in a database, you're probably guilty of something?

Re: DNA database..
i think it should be mandatory. if you have nothing to hide it doesn't matter. and if you are thinking of doing a violent crime, well then this could be a good deterent.

Re: DNA database..
It should mandatory for all those who have been convicted of a crime, as they do here in Minn.. Now should they do it for everyone, naw, I don't think so. That may be crossing the line into the big brother world. They have enough of our personal information already, how much is enough.

Re: DNA database..
I forgot to ask in the orig post, what about insurance companies wanting our DNA...so they can exclude or adjust premium rates according to what our DNA says about our probablity of develping certain diseases?

Re: DNA database..
i think we should just do away with health insurance all together. it's such a mess! government health should be made available. that way the government will automatically have access to the dna records.

Re: DNA database..
And who says they don't already have our DNA??? You know that the insurance companies aren't going tell you that they already have that information and/or are not already sharing it with the gov. It's what they do with it, like profiling people that worries me.

Don't some insurance companies do the cheek swab test on ya, telling you that it's just to see if you smoke or not?
I've always wondered if THAT'S all they are testing you for!

If that would happen, I would probably kick them right where it counts the most, and tell them "that if you couldn't tell that when I walked into the room. Then caring for someones health is the last thing you should be doing. You dumb ASS". Beside, I've given them so much blood over the years, they probably have a freezer full of it.

F**k the felons! Break the law, pay the price! You are a marked individual!!
NO, I don't think it's a violation of individual liberties nor a civil rights violation. You give up that right when you become an asshole!!!

Re: DNA database..
I really don't think it is a problem to have DNA on file. I've never done anything to warrant (lol) having a problem. I think if it would take violent offenders, child molesters, or other such people off the street then we would have a safer place to live...

Re: DNA database..
Someday, we will be implanted with a GPS chip, that encodes our DNA and fingerprints, allowing the police to know where we are so that whenever our prints or DNA are found in a crime they can find us.

They have already started to do something like that. Those that are under close supervised release, have to wear a ankle bracelet with GPS. That way you can monitor the assholes from anywhere.

then kill me now, because I won't have it, ever.
of course, I am not a violent person and the liklihood of me ever committing anything they'd need to ID for like that, is so small as to be impossible.

we already have that in place..during sex we use the penis to implant our DNA....which ultimately and eventually leads to men getting "pussy whipped" and being led around by the "ball and chain"...cell phone calls to know whre we are...talk about going beyond Big Brother..

Re: DNA database..
Only get DNA from criminals.
Leave the rest of us alone!
Hey Tropi, I do like your answer though - especially the 'ball' and chain!
