Nicknames
What nickname did you grow up with or have you been tagged with by someone as an adult?
I'm always giving people around me nicknames, I'm the only person who can get away with calling people silly things...I just have to be careful not to do it in front of others.
For instance there is someone I work with that answers to Timmy Bear...he said I can call him that but if anyone else ever does he will have to kill them, I think he means it...LOL

Re: Nicknames
If I remember right, there are three stories to the nickname: Mooant.
1) In middle school, I formed a video game production company with my brother and a group of friends. We never got anything done other than artwork and stories (games didn't really have stories back then, we were going to change that) ... (actually, they still don't...). As part of the story, I created a new world on an alien planet, and decided to come up with a series of wildlife and plants for this new world. One of which was a giant ant with a cow's head. It made the noise "cow" instead of "moo", so we called it a Mooant.
2) My parents moved to Hawaii just after I graduated High School. They had visited the area several times over the years, and we learned several of the polynesian words. (the former Hawaiian State fish is Hummuhummunakunakuapa'a, learn to say it for a free drink at most bars). The word for Gecko is Moa'oa, reinforcing the idea of Mooant.
3) I'm crazy!

Nope, you're not the only one, I'm also one of those that have that gift!
Calling people by a nickname or variation of their name is a pretty spontaneous thing for me. Nobocy seems to mind it, most really like it, and the names usually stick.

Re: Nicknames
We've got it covered then Liz...you reference the word "head" allot, I do the same for "butt"
For some silly reason, I add the word butt to allot of nicknames, and sadly pet names too...I think about what a mistake that is when I need to call home a pet that got loose and I'm out in the neghborhood yell things like "Bearbutt!!"

Re: Nicknames
Well I had one on Jr High for a while. To be nice I was compared to the certain part of a females anatomy. That didn't last long when I came back with "You are what you eat"
When I was in the service they called me "Okie" for obvious reasons.
Then later, about 26 years ago, someone tacked on "Wolf" and that has stuck. Some still don't know my real name.

Re: Nicknames
I have had several nicknames over the years. When I was a boy scout I was given the name Chester because I would imitate the Chester character on the TV show Gunsmoke. I still use it frequently but I shorten it to Ches now.
After I began working after high school my co-workers called me Doc because I was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan whose owner was Harold Ballard and my co-workers picked up the fact that there is a popular dog food with the name Dr. Ballard. I also was known for giving advice on various things so another reason to call me Doc. I was known as Doc for several years. Whenever a new employee would come on staff I would be introduced as Doc and when these new people saw my real name on a form or letter they would ask who is this person.
I had several other nicknames as the decades past but I am not at liberty to reveal them here.
