Household hints...
What the hell....the recipe sharing thread we have got a great response, thought we'd try one on household hints...any efficient shortcuts to cleaning or chores, any good substitutions to use when you run out of whatever,
any good home remedies, or fixes, any little tricks your mamma may have passed on to you?

Re: Household hints...
Vinegar is like the best substitution every...it cleans mirrors and takes hard water deposits off of just about everything you soak in it. Hard water may not be a problem for anyone else but here it is a nightmare to get off of stuff (even with a water softner).

Re: Household hints...
Do you have a grease stain or an ink stain on a jacket or shirt that will not come out , short of applying bleach where it is certain to ruin the color of the article?
Try spraying the stain with HAIRSPRAY! That's right, hairspray. Spray the stain with the cheapest hairspray you can get, I mean the DOLLAR STORE stuff. After the spot is dry, throw the item in the washer and then either in the dryer or hang to dry. The spot should be gone.
I've done this many times without fail. Try it!!!!

I like to use vinegar(white)for cleaning my microwave when the husband has blown something up in it and the husband didn't clean it up when it was fresh, just a half a cup, put in the micro for about 30 seconds or so till it comes to a boil, then let it sit in there, it'll steam up the interior, and makes it very easy to just wipe clean.

To keep from crying from a strong onion, put it in ice for 5-10 minutes. That mellows it out some.

Do housework during commercials, it motivates you to get the work done during a set length of time. Don't cheat and use Tivo.

If you're Monica Lewinsky, you send out to the DNA lab for testing.

yeah, and that's what launched her career too.
i've heard that if you accidently over salt a dish to just add a peeled potato in there. it should absorb all the excess.

Re: Household hints...
From cleaning windows, mirrors or eyeglasses, I often use coffee filters....they are pretty much lint free....and of course, newspaper does a fantastic job too.

Re: Household hints...
Is your wife feeling all depressed 'cause she has to spend a week in SANTA MONICA, CA for a freakin' week training her replacement at work? Simple solution, give her a long weekend in LAS VEGAS on her way back home. Hell, I should surprise her and join her there! That should put a smile back on her face. Who knows, maybe we'll stay in the hotel room one night....... Maybe I should start my VIAGRA iv now!!!!!!

Re: Household hints...
The dreaded onion smell on your hands after cutting one up! Was told a long time ago to try this and it works. After you are done cutting up an onion put some dish washing liquid on your hands and then run your hands over a stainless steel faucet a few times. Works every time and also helps to clean your faucet.

You know REAL, that sounds like an old wives's tale. One that undoubtedly works like a charm!!!!
