Head Bangers.........................
Is it me or do all the current bands sound exactly the same? They all have at least one guy who bobble heads and the rest look like a shower would be asking way too much of them!! I'm sorry but I am old school (60's and 70's) and I cannot grasp the gravity of it. When I was young, oh so many years ago, I played drums and guitar in oh so many bands, we attempted to mimic what ever was current, JIMI HENDRIX, The WHO, ect. Notice that these bands have endured. The bands of today are all MTV flash with nothing, no hook to their music. These young whipper-snappers of today, probably have their employment apps on file at WALMART and McDonald's.......just in case their 15 minutes of fame expires after 10 minutes.
Am I just too f**kin' old to comment on this or....what was I just ranting about? Damn Alzheimer's!!!!!

Re: Head Bangers.........................
Your father said the same about your music, and his father said the same about your father's music...
IT's just the ole "generation gap"....believe me, those youngin's that listen to newer music can definitly tell the difference between each band and can give you a quick list of these details and differences.
What you said is just what allot of people said about grunge music...Paleez! I never had a problem telling anyone if that was Pearl Jam, or Stone Temple Pilots they just heard on the radio!

PEARL who, STONE TEMPLE what? What are you telling me you young whipper-snapper?????
Honestly though, I talked to my 14 y/o great nephew today and he said he changes allegiances pretty often and he is starting to get bored with the music that not long ago, he worshiped (head-bang). How does one get bored you ask? By not hearing any variety, even from your favorite bands. Hell, I got bored listening to the same-o, same-o from the bands that I liked back in the day. Luckily, I grew up in a very progressive time in rock music. A whole lot of very imaginative people and I was privy to that time. If I could only remember all the names of the bands I listened to! My memory was the second thing to go!!

Re: Head Bangers.........................
I get so frustrated at the lyrics and crap the kids listen too. . . . .
Then I start listening to my favorite 80's rock station and ya know . . I bet my Mom just freaked when some of those songs came out and I was jammin' to them - they were extremely sex laden!!

Re: Head Bangers.........................
gotta go along with Bill on this thread, to me, they stopped making REAL music a loooong damn time ago ! yes Chazzy, you are right, it IS a generation gap. but explain this to me: my son lived with me during his senior year of high-school. his mother had moved some 30 miles away, and he wanted to stay with the people he had started school with. i came home one night to hear jERRY lEE lEWIS blaring away on the stereo! when i asked why he would listen to "good old rock n roll", his reply was," dad thats the BEST music ive ever heard!" there were lots of times i didnt think my son understood what GOOD music was, but sometimes its great to be wrong!!!!!

Re: Head Bangers.........................
Oh hell, I listened to Aretha, Sammy Davis, even Bobby Vinton when I was growing up, I loved taking a peek into the generations before me.
But the music generated by your peers, whatever decade that may be for you personally, will always pour straight into your heart!
No generation can lay claim to the title of "the best music ever" it's an fast evolving world, and the music, all music, evolved from a foundation centuries old.
I adore it when the young appreciate what spawned their own generations tags.
Even fashion, as we know, every 20 years comes back around again.
It's not the music of your time that gets the credit, it's the open minded, soak-it-up-like-a-sponge, curious youth of each generation that makes room in their lives for "your music" that deserve the real credit. If not for them, each generations music would die out with total extinction.
In the '60's, there were CSN&Y with social and war protest songs, the 70's was all about "the man" and social protest, then the 80's brought angst into music(again, a little more anti-social emotions)
It's all the same, it's all samplers of our society, and it's all beautiful in that way.

Re: Head Bangers.........................
...summing it all up. What's the big difference here?
The young are willing to listen to all music and find credibilty in it, enjoy it, share it....But us? Eh...not so much, huh?

.....and another thing, there is no longevity or staying power to any of todays music. None whatsoever!! Do you seriously expect to be humming any current song that you may have find interesting, 5 years from now? Probably not.
Are you really gonna remember who the f**k "DAUGHTRY" is a year from now? Hell, by then, you'll probably catch a member or two at a WALMART near you, being honored as employee of the month!
Hey, believe me, I do not live in the past. I always have the latest toys....plasma TVs, cell phones, new house, "condition" my hair (blonde) and I take viagra intravenously (lol). Out with the old, in with the new but I do have very strict idea what I like in my music. Sorry but headbang (today's music) is not in my music library. It f**kin' sucks!!

Re: Head Bangers.........................
Flash in the pans, one hit wonders, novelty bands and songs...not just for this decade.
I still must insist, it's all the same.
You can't get a feel for today's music by listening to a few songs or bands.
And no...(this is gonna piss off so many people)Rap is NOT crap...some rap is crap, some country is really crappy, some industrial definitely needs a special developed taste....
Some bands and artist producing this music right now, has been around for more than ten years(in one form or another..ie..band changes, solo careers, etc....)
Some will have there fleeting fame, some will live a long life and begat the next generation's music.
I just don't see anything productive from lumping up a vast variety of something and categorizing it on just a small personal biased sampling.

I love a good debate!
I will say, that some of the music made now is not to my taste, but I'll not deny it's right to exist.

Ya know, there's something they always say about talent, beauty, brains skipping a generation, so what's ugly now could very well spawn something quite beautiful!

I am a big BUDDY RICH fan. I played drums as a young man and I saw BUDDY with his big band, in person 11 times. I got his autograph. What a prick with legs he was, but still a f**kin' prodigy. FANTASTIC!!!!
May he rest in peace.........

A lot of the newer bands song's all sound the same, this is true. However they have to have time to experiment with new styles and mixes. We shouldn't forget the amount of competition in the industry and they're going to stick with what worked for them at first. Just MPO

Re: Head Bangers.........................
Now, now, now Bill that little could be taken several ways For me, I love almost all music. But give me Rod Stewart, Kenny G, and I totally love Jazz! If it wasn't for my employees coming up and putting their headsets on my head and making me listen to a song that they liked, I would have probably never listened to Mariah Carey! Oh how I love her songs! Guess it's fair, when my employees are at work I like to listen to 80's on my radio. And they don't complain when I have the radio on. lol But I will admit that there are some bands that I don't get into that they listen to.
