Non-Smoking England. . .
A ban on smoking in all enclosed public places and workplaces in England will come into force on July 1 this year.

Indoor smoking rooms will be banned, so smokers will have to go outside instead.

From this summer all offices, factories, shops, pubs, bars, restaurants, clubs, public transport and work vehicles that are used by more than one person will be smoke-free.

The new law will also mean that indoor smoking rooms, still common in workplaces, will no longer be allowed. Anyone wishing to smoke will have to go outside instead.

All smoke-free premises and vehicles will be required to display no-smoking signs.

Yayyyyyyyy.....I personally can't wait..No more
passive smoking for me.!!

What do you guys think? Do any of you already have this ban?

Re: Non-Smoking England. . .
I can say in my state that they have banned all smoking indoors.......Heck, I even heard they wanted to ban it in the streets of NY.....(not sure what ever happened, if anything yet)

However, can't smoke in any public places....Bars, casinos, you name it, its all smoke free....It has been that way for a few years now....I also believe that Jersey just enforced it this past April

What the heck is England coming to?
What, are you guys following the PC craze from us Yanks?
The Pubs won't be the same now.
You mean I can go into a restaurant or Pub and actually see 5 ft. above the floor????
Oh shit, that means I may actually see the girl's face I'm trying to pick-up v. the morning after.

No, I'm a non-smoker too. I think its great. My eyes burn every time I get inside one of those places - even for a few minutes. But the atmosphere makes it worthwhile
Good to hear that!

Just remember, its all about choices, and you have chosen to go into those types of places knowing full well what you are getting into. So don't blame anyone else for your piss poor choice.

I like the idea too. I never smoked and I sure don't want my family to breath in someones secondhand smoke when we do go out to eat.

Re: Non-Smoking England. . .
The thing I hate most about smokers is having my insurance premiums going up for their medical and cancer bills, but I guess as long as there are stupid people, there will be stupid choices

Re: Non-Smoking England. . .
Washington state has the smoking ban, everywhere but the casinos on the Indian reservations. Being a non-smoker, I like being able to go into restaurants and not smell any smoke. The smoke always seemed to travel directly into my face. I do know that a lot of bar owners are complaining that the smokers quit going because of the ban and they're losing a good portion of their business to the casinos. Smoking is prohibited within 21 feet of building entrances and people in Seattle were complaining about all the cig butts all over the streets (no public ashtrays set up). Now I like butts on women but not butts on the streets.

Re: Non-Smoking England. . .
I guess it all depends where you are mentally as well as physically,,,but I do not know one person who has suffered through cancer that has said that if they had to do it all over, that they would take the same risk over again. While smoking is only one part of the equation lots more people are suffering from colon and other dietary cancers, now presumed to be related to casein protein which is the main product of meat and dairy consumption and the absence of fruits and vegetables. Recent research has now concluded that the only thing hereditary about cancer is the dietary habits from out parents and grand parents and NOT your genes. Research has also concluded that people will adapt to hearsay that is far from the truth in order to continue there present non healthy life styles. To make things more simple your plate should consist of 10% or less of lean baked meats and 90% or more of fresh vegetables, complex carbohydrate and fruits, or you will have your feet in the fast lane for the scalpel and chemotherapy. Hypocrites said : Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food! But I do not think that he had McDonald's, Wendy's, burger king, KFC and the rest in mind.

Re: Non-Smoking England. . .
I believe in, and support any efforts for a smoke-free planet. But in this country, we all need to accept the fact that an entire generation was "duped" into beleiving that smoking was a relatively harmless and cool recreational thing to do.
It has taken decades to disprove and fight this and the result happens to be tens of thousands, maybe millions(?) that are addicted to nicotine.
Maybe all we can do is keep pushing for the future generations to make smoking and nicotine obsolete, in the mean time, we will be carrying the burden for the bad judgement and mistakes of past generations. I won't bitch about 'em(the nicotine addicted) I'll just focus on getting the job done, sooner or later, for our society to be nicotine free.

Re: Non-Smoking England. . .
We've had a smoking ban here for many years. Our bars don't seem to have suffered as they are packed each weekend...people who are going to drink are going to drink. I agree with Chazzy, my Mom was a smoker and quit years ago when the information was coming out about how bad cigarette smoking was. Her generation was definately encouraged to smoke because it was cool. Even though she was smoke free for decades cancer still took her life, my sister-in-law has never picked up a cigarette in her life and is battling cancer right now...cancer isn't just for smokers anymore...

Viva la England...no more smoking!!! You will love it Liberal!!!

Re: Non-Smoking England. . .
I am really pleased they have banned it, there was nothing worse then taking the boys out for dinner when someone would start smoking and ruin a nice meal. My mum gave up a few years ago and i am so pleased she did, the boys would come back from visiting and stink of smoke. About time England done something we are happy with!!!!
