Re: SpyWare/Adware
You may also try running Spybot Search and Destroy. If you dont already have it, I can email you the link to install. Its a free download and you'd be amazed at how much it removes. It has frequent updates for new problems that arise as well. I run it on mine twice a week.

Re: SpyWare/Adware
Check out majorgeeks site, they usually have tools for just about anything, and I found them very safe for downloading programs. (Although I always double check with a virus scan when I download anything from anywhere)
PChell is a good place to get instrustions and tools for removing stuff too.

Re: SpyWare/Adware
I have Spybot and I also have AVG, both Virus and Spywares apps, have run them all, I tried running it back, doing a restore...but for some reason my system won't restore....I don't know why...I am no computer geek when it comes to this stuff, I even looked it up on the web abd tried to follow their instructions for manual removal, but in task manager, where it says to look to stop it before removing, the .exe isn't under the name pest trap like it says...so I am stumped...

Re: SpyWare/Adware
Thanks, Nips, that was the first thing I tried....it wasn't listed in there and the app associated with it wouldn't allow me to delete it...kept telling me I had to restart the comp to do it...I didn't think that sounded right, so I didn't.

Re: SpyWare/Adware
Go to www.download.com do a search for ad-aware (personal) down load it and once installed let if update. then run it ,do the full scan. Also you should do a search for spybot (one word) and download that install it and run it.
If that does not fix the problem you can do a full free virus scan at www.trend.com
Hope this helps.

Re: SpyWare/Adware
Can't restore? Are you running windows ME? I know there was a date put into me that caused the restore function to stop working. There is a patch for it on miicrosoft's download page.
Hope you get rid of the problem.

Re: SpyWare/Adware
No, it's a newer computer (july of last year, I think( so it's definately running XP.
It seems to be ok now, since I put Norton on, guess I'll be shelling out the $$ when it;s time for the trial to end, lol!
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and advice!

Re: SpyWare/Adware
Sometimes...when this kind of thing happens to me...I take the easy route of just using system restore(I use XP os) and choose the checkpoint just prior to the program installation.

Just a little FYI Pepper if you decide to get rid of norton's you'll need to get the removal program to do it.

Oh yeah...I've been there! I had to re-install my Norton's once, and found it's a booger to first remove it...
For other stinker uninstalls, or other computer error messages or problems, I've found that just going to Google, then groups, then the computer catagory, then type in the entire or partial error message, or a fairly detailed phrase like "how do I uninstall whateverprogram?" gets me allot of usefull and good search results.
