61. Hot water is heavier than cold. Heavier really means more dense, and of course as water rises in temperature its density decreases (as does pretty much everything else), hence a colume of water will weight less when warmer.

actually i think water is on it own here... most things are more dense in there solid state which is at the lower temps yes, but we all know ice floats (meaning its desity decreases with it's temp)

I did see one once when I lived in Austin, TX. It was laying flat on its back with all 4 legs up in the air. It was dead or playing dead. The kids got a kick out of seeing it. There is a store chain in that area called "Guitars & Cadillacs" that sells stuffed armadillos, laying on their back with 4 paws holding a beer bottle up to its face. LOL

The trend continues up through changing pahse to water vavour, etc. Upon freezing water molecules form ice crystals which have a lattice work structure, and its density decreases suddenly. We're both right BCB.
Don't you remember the classic Grade 9 science experiment? The teacher heats up some water in a basin and then adds cold water with food colouring in it. The students get to see what the cold water does as it is poured into the basin. The denser, colder water, falls to the bottom of the basin because the hotter water is less dense ("lighter" and floats on top of it.

Re: Totally Useless Info
i had a cat named rex. but he was a bigamist- he had another family, and now he lives with them.i had a cat named "albotross" when i was a kid.
until someone stole him, i had the sweetest little cat named "habebe". it is arabic for sweetie. i worked with a doctor from syria, and she always called her husband habebe. we all thought it was his name. so the whole back office staff called him habebe. after the first few times she explained it to us. red faces all around
right now all i have is a wienie dog named "ladybug"
and a year old lab. her name is maab, after a character in the king arther stories. plus a bunch of nameless geckos.
thank you, but no on the spider. i can get one anytime i want one.
thus ends the name lecture.

Why do we name cats anyway. Even if they recognize their name, they never respond to anything they don't want to respond to. You could call them kitty or you could call them Amadeus the Great and it wouldn't make a whit of difference to the cat.

to be more exact you would have to say average sea level, because it changes constantly, based on the position of the earth and moon in relation to the sun. some people call it high and low tide, but in terms of oceanography science there are actually 4 separate tide levels.

Re: Totally Useless Info
Ok, let me take a stab at some useless info... (Off the top of my head).
1) Coke a cola used to have cocaine in it. Really!
2) There are tissues that become erect on the tip of your nose when you are aroused.
3) Vaseline used to be a medicine you took internally.
4) Even today people are used to test Vaseline as it comes off the factory floor, by tasting it!. Aparently, some people have a gene that allows then to detect some substance or other in Vaseline. Don't remember more than that.
5) Water is not that good of a conductor of electricity! We always think electricity + water = death, but water has a break down voltage higher than the power in our homes. Why are baths so unsafe then? The oils and salts that come off of our body make water conductive.
6) To stop our heart electricity must flow across it. That means holding power wires in each hand. A shock across your leg will burn and strain your muscles but won't kill you. Hence, a hairdryer in the bathtub usually doesn't kill.
7) Lightning strikes the ground from above, but the flash we see results from the resulting stroke from the ground back up to the sky.
8) Salt is composed by two of the more deadly substances. Sodium and Cloride. When combined into salt they neutralize each other.
9) Why do we shake with right hands? Why not left hands? Soldiers would shake right hands to show that their sword hand was empty. Left hands were for holding shields.
10) Look at a face normally and then turn it upside down. A smile is always perceived as one, yet a frown is not.
11) If you wear special glasses that flip the image upside down long enough the brain will flip the image back again.
12) There is a spot on each eye that is blind - its where the optic nerve connects. But you don't see it because the brain fills the hole with what it thinks should be there. There is a test to demonstrate this.
13) To keep small imperfections of the eye from showing up as permanent spots in your vision the brain subtracts things in the image that never change. Thats why the eye ball must move every few seconds or so. If you force yourself to not blink or move your eyes your sight will slowely fade.
Geez. Look at all of the usless stuff I'be absorbed over the years. That must be why my kids used to call out to their mother saying "MOM! Dads 'splaining things again!". LOL
