Mail order brides
What's your opinion of this type of business?
Some men specifically seek mail order brides from countries and cultures where women are raised to be quietly submissive. Some mail order brides are specifically seeking well off or rich American men.
Are men exploiting desperate women, or are gold digging women exploiting the men looking for brides?

A guy I work with did this and it is working out well for him. He isn't a rich guy and he and his wife have been together for over five years now. They have one child and one on the way. I don't know how it works for others but for him it has been great.

I don't know what the averages are, a friend of mine did this, got himself a British girl, it's worked out well. 2 kids & 8 years later, they are still happy.

I've heard from both sides of this. Thart is some have worked and others just wanted a way into the US.
Cann't you just go to Wal-Mart and find one?? That is if you want a Chinese bride.

I've both ways on this also. Some of the brides just want a way into the U.S. Then they came become citizens, and off to the divorce lawyer. But then their the ones that are forced to do this. Wether it's family seeking money or a pimp seeking money. Mostly I feel its for the money, but not for the bride. I don't like seeing women used for this reason, it's just wrong.

I think if the woman are from the poorer countries they will seek a man to escape and help support their families back home. But their are a couple of guys localish to here that have gone abroad and married very young woman and brought them back. They seem to be there for their beckon call and i feel they are their to serve these men in every way!!! They can only be 18/20 and the men are late 50's. I have no problem with age normally, but something just doesn't feel right when you see these young girls . I just hope they are happy.

This is especially true in many asian countries. Specifically, the Philippines, CAmbodia, South Vietnam.
It is part of the culture there to marry the young girls off to older men in exchange for money. I don't remember the proper term.

i dont know Chazzy...realistically i think that there is a mutual benefit to this for both parties...
which may or may not benefit the "marriage" in the long run

I researched this one years ago. I found out that younger women from other countries can't get the visa's to come to this country on their own, so marriage is the only other option. Women from China, for example, out-number men about five to one. China's way of dealing with this, kill female babies. If the parents choose to keep them, they lose benefits availiable to them otherwise. That was the practice years ago, now they are the major workforce in their country, working 16 hr days. So, the chance of coming to this country, and married to a guy you might learn to love, looks very inviting. Top that with working even a lowly job like McDonalds at 8 dollars an hour, as appose to a chinese job at 2.16 a day, and you'd be ready to marry the son of satan too.
Of all the one's out there, China women are the best by far. They are more dosile and good natured by their upbringing. Their marriiage mindeness probably comes from their traditional way of getting married anyway (Arranged Marriages) Among the worst would be Latino's (Don't shoot the messenger). Only because a lot of Latin mail-order marriages end in divorce. At the time, the rate was only 23%. The trend in the divorce rate surprisingly comes at the same time their status as Americans becomes permanent. Mail-order-bride marriages have to go at least 3 years before the bride becomes a full legal citizen. If a divorce was eminent before that, they were back in their country faster than their head could spin. They may have changed that, as I only researched it ten years ago, but having to put up with a man you may dispise for three years to become a legal immagrant, you'd throw yourself at any American guy who's looking. I guess what I'm saying is you need to do the research yourself and not grab the first young babe who shows you any interest...

A mail order bride is just looking for a meal-ticket and a passport, and is desperate enough to marry a man she barely knows to get it. It's sad that in this world, many women feel a need to do that. Something's very wrong.!!
There may be women who are forced into it. Sex trafficking is a huge problem in the countries from which some of these hail, but in my opinion, mail-order brides are just offshoots of hookers.
One should not have to buy a spouse!!. God, what has our world come to? It makes me so mad !!

great point Liberal!! Sex trafficking is a huge enterprise in many of the countries from which these mail order brides originate. I agree that its a sad fact of society for this to even be a part of life...

I've known a few men who were very interested in getting a mail order bride. These men were very domineering types, and rarely could get past a first date with an independent contemporary woman. These men were very traditional thinkers and believed that the man, or husband is a wee bit superior to the woman/wife.
It's this type of personality in men that leads to them resorting to violence to reinforce their domination.
There are plenty of cases where a mail order bride was severely abused, killed, or "gone missing" and presumed to be dead.
And there are those case, where a mail order bride uses a man to gain entry and citizen ship in this country, with no intent whatsoever to stay married to the groom that provides that and will "steal" whatever funds she can from him all while having a lover or two (or more) on the side.
