Ice storms
Anybody else getting hit with this?
We got three waves of ice storms moving through, the third one will hit tonite.
Everything is thickly coated in ice, I can just step outside and listen to trees spintering and falling.
So far, in my neighborhood, no big damage, but several fallen trees but with the third storm arriving tonite it could get real bad. The biggest problem so far is with the power outages from trees falling on power lines.

Re: Ice storms
We got it bad around here too. Over 700 miles of power lines down on the hiways. Some people have been out of power for 3 weeks, & maybe 2 weeks before all power lines are up again. Over $200 million in damages. The ones with kids & older people are feeling it worst.

Nope, it's just a bit over 0 right now, temperature wise. Suppose to get a few inches tonight.

I think I would go out and buy a couple Karosene heaters just in case, if there are any left to be had?

Re: Ice storms
North Texas finally got a winter blast. Ice and freezing rain over the weekend and let up a little on Monday after about 3-4 inches of rain total. Temperatures never have been above freezing since Saturday afternoon. Ice and sleet were forecast south of Dallas-Ft Worth but we woke up this morning to almost an inch of snow and sleet covering the roadways. This area experiences gridlock with anything slick on the roads so schools were closed and all kind of events have been canceled. You can't find firewood at any price since last week. I spent time in Colorado where snow is a fact of life but these folks have a lot of trouble with it. No one can deal with ice and freezing rain....just makes travel all but impossible and causes power outages from fallen trees and power lines. Hope everybody has a chance to thaw out and at least melt the ice so we can get back to normal.

Re: Ice storms
Amen Smitty!!! Here in central Texas everything has been closed down for two days. I'm about to brave an outing for the first time, I'm not concerned about myself because I will take it slow and easy but the other driver's act as if they have a license to speed because the roads are clear, it is nuts!!!

Re: Ice storms
the worst thing about it...guys with 4x4 pickups and suvs that think they can drive thru any type of weather...don't they realize that four wheel drive does nothing on the ice???
living in Minnesota, iv'e known plenty of guys who thought they'd be able to make it thru a blizzard, only to find out that once you hit an icy patch, you have no control...
PEOPLE NEED TO SLOW DOWN AND DRIVE LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT..BECAUSE IT DOES AND SO DOES THE LIFE OF EVERYONE ELSE ON THE ROAD....

Re: Ice storms
I just heard that another storm is gearing up for the area's of the last ice storms. What a weird winter. Here in Minnesota, we normally have 30 days below zero, so far we have had 3, and not much for snow, I think Dallas has gotten more than us. I'm not sure if I should shovel the driveway or cut the grass????????????

Re: Ice storms
in total agreement wit ya FLP, truly a weird one...any one else notice that when the weather man says to expect 8" of snow or more...we get flurries, yet when they say to only expect flurries...we get 3 ft...weather men & politicians...the only occupation that you can lie...and get away with it...lol

Just a little bit
It was nice having them home, actually. Everyone got sick and now my 6 year old is getting over that stomach flu. He'll be going back to school tomorrow and everything will return to normal... whatever the hell that is
