Divinyls singer Chrissy Amphlett dies at 53

The lead singer of the Australian rock band Divinyls, whose hit I Touch Myself brought her and the group international fame in the early 1990s.

Chrissy Amphlett has died at her home in New York City, reports AP. She was 53.

Her musician husband, Charley Drayton, said in a statement that "Amphlett succumbed to the effects of breast cancer and multiple sclerosis" on Sunday.

Amphlett formed the Divinyls in 1980 with musician Mark McEntee and Jeremy Paul.

The band released six albums between 1982 and 1996, peaking in 1991 with I Touch Myself, which reached No. 1 in Australia, No. 4 in the United States and No. 10 in Britain.

Harry Vance "Chuck" Muncie (March 17, 1953 - May 14, 2013) was an American football running back who played for the New Orleans Saints and San Diego Chargers in the National Football League from 1976 to 1984. He was selected to the Pro Bowl three times (1979, 1981, 1982) and tied the then-NFL season record for rushing touchdowns in 1981.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Muncie was considered one of the best running backs in the game until cocaine problems forced him into retirement. Eventually he went to prison, where he turned his life around and helped others through mentoring programs.

Re: Rest In Peace
David "Deacon" Jones, the original sackmaster, has died.

The Hall of Fame defensive end credited with terming the word sack for how he knocked down quarterbacks, was 74. The Washington Redskins said that Jones died of natural causes at his home in Southern California on Monday night.

Hall of Famer Deacon Jones, the leader of the Fearsome Foursome defensive line for the Rams in the 1960s, died Monday. He was 74.
"Deacon Jones was one of the greatest players in NFL history. Off the field, he was a true giant," said Redskins general manager Bruce Allen, whose father, George, coached Jones with the Los Angeles Rams. "His passion and spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him. He was a cherished member of the Allen family and I will always consider him my big brother."

Because sacks didn't become an official statistic until 1982, Jones' total is uncertain. His impact as a premier pass rusher and team leader is not.

Jones was the leader of the Rams' Fearsome Foursome unit from 1961-71 and then played for San Diego for two seasons before finishing his career with the Redskins in 1974. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1980 and made the league's 75th anniversary all-time squad.

Senator Lautenberg Passed away. He was the last remaining WWII vet to serve as senator. Weather or not you liked his politics he was actually a really nice man. I don't get to say that to often about politicians.

He was 89 years old. His funeral was today in Manhattan. He was then going by Amtrak to Washington DC to lay in repose before he is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.(He was a huge advocate for Amtrack and has a station named after him, in case your wondering why they did that)

He was also one of the few politicians that really spent time talking to the people around here. When we would see him at events and you would chat with him it was like talking to a family member. He called me personally to talk about something once, not his secretary. That really impressed me. So rare these days.He will be missed around here.

Esther Williams, whose success as a competitive swimmer propelled her to stardom on the silver screen in the 1940s and 1950s, died Thursday in California, at 91.

Williams, known for films that featured synchronized swimming spectacles.

She grew up in Southern California and was a U.S. swimming champion in freestyle and the breaststroke by her late teens. But her Olympic dreams ended in 1940, when the Summer Games were canceled because of World War II.

She made a movie here in Florida. Easy to Love (1953), was filmed on location in Cypress Gardens, where a Florida-shaped pool had been built specifically for the film.

Marcia Wallace -- who voiced Edna Krabappel on "The Simpsons" -- died last night in Los Angeles ...

Marcia's caregiver tells us ... the actress passed away at home with her family by her side. We're told she had been sick for the past few months ... but the caregiver couldn't go into specifics.

Wallace has been on TV since the 70's -- and spent 3 decades on various game show panels like "Hollywood Squares", "The $25,000 Pyramid" and "Match Game" ... as well as receptionist Carol Kester on "The Bob Newhart Show."

The actress was also a huge activist for breast cancer ... after being diagnosed with the disease in 1985.

She was 70.

Re: Rest In Peace
Lou Reed, who took rock 'n' roll into dark corners as a songwriter, vocalist and guitarist for the Velvet Underground and as a solo artist, died Sunday, his publicist said. He was 71.

The publicist, Peter Noble, confirmed Reed's death but released no details. Reed had undergone a liver transplant in May, his wife, the musician/performance artist Laurie Anderson, disclosed over the summer.

Reed was a rock pioneer who went from record label songwriter to a member of the short-lived but innovative and influential Velvet Underground. The band and Reed's solo work tackled taboo topics like drug addiction, paranoia and sexual deviancy in songs that were largely spare, muscular and often saturated in feedback.

"Lou Reed's influence is one that there are really only a tiny handful of other figures who you can compare to him," said Simon Vozick-Levinson, a senior editor at Rolling Stone.

"He spoke incredibly frankly about the realities of being an artist, being a person who lived life on one's own terms. He didn't prettify things. He didn't sugarcoat things. He showed life as it really is and that's something that made him a true original, and one of our great all-time artists," he said.
