Mom
It is 5:40 AM on Thursday, August 26th and I just got a call from my sister in San Diego that my mom died last night. I am going to book a flight and go there for a few days to help with things and attend her funeral. Her life was pretty good and she was happy for most of it. I wish I could have been there to say goodbye.

Re: Mom
Gary,
Please feel no guilt for not being there at that time, just one of the beautiful things your mother knew, is just one of the beautiful things I know she taught you, you didn't need to be in the same room to know how much love there was. You both always have and always will know it.

Re: Mom
Today I gave the eulogy for my mom.
I'm not used to talking to so many people or talking about a topic so close to my heart, so I brought two props to help. First, I brought a detailed script, in case my brain tries to lock up. Second, I brought a handkerchief. Actually, I'm hoping the handkerchief will work like an umbrella . . . it never seems to rain when you have an umbrella. At least there in Oregon, where I live.
When I found out earlier this week that I would be giving a short talk about my Mother today, I spent a sleepless night thinking about what to say. How could I do justice to the task? I don't know how to pack a whole, active lifetime into a few minutes of words.
The task seemed all the more daunting because we are not talking about an ordinary person here. She took the task of raising me alone after my dad left us with grace and skill. I turned out OK, thanks to her.
I will miss her.

Re: Mom
Gary, I hope you and your sister are doing alright, and I know I never met this woman, your mother, I do believe I've seen her grace, everytime I've talked to you.
