Just recently in the news....it was announced that St.Louis was "The most dangerous city" in the nation...

Re: Nickname of the city you live?
and I thought it was my neighbor Gary, IN! Here it's "Potawatami Trail", meandering (marked in a lot of places with little plaques) through the Miller Beach area. Father Marquette (1700s) circled the Great lakes converting the Indians to Christianity. Spent a couple years here, still a foundation of the mission and a large, multi-achered tree lined park on Lake Michigan named after him.

Well, I can assure all of you, & I give my solem oath on this, my town is Not, I repeat, Not well known, or famous for the 50% of all the members here who have written to me, or made post in the forums, as to how my town got it's name. My town was built about 100 yards from the beaver creek, & back in the haydays of the fur trade, when a beaver pelt was a much sought after commodity, the trappers had a booming business around here. I promise all of you, it has never, nor is now, famous because of a bumper crop of hot, horny women . Trust me on this. Oxford, Nebr. which is 8 miles west, is the "Turkey Capitol of Nebraska" because every year, they have "Turkey Days, which starts with 1,000's & 1,000's of people going to the park for the free BBQ, featuring Turkey, this is followed by a 4 day street drunk. There is a carnival, 3 blocks are blocked off to traffic, & the sidewalks, bars & streets are packed with every kind of drunk you can think of. Pretty good party for a small town.

Re: Nickname of the city you live?
I call my city, "No Brains". Haven't seen much in the line of brains around here for years. The City I used to live in was called, "little sweden". A nice quant little dying town. Its has turned into a bedroom community for the commuters who only use the town as a bedroom.

We are the official home of the Dallas Cowboys(at least until 2009 when they move to their new $1 billion domed stadium in Arlington. Someone proposed "The City of Champions" but it has not been officially adopted. Being a suburb of "Big D" is our only other claim to fame.

"beaver pelts" are still in high demand *wink*wink*
although more recently a new species of "hairless beaver" is sought for trapping.

Re: Nickname of the city you live?
I'm not sure that my town has a nickname. It is sort of famous for its historical buildings on the square. We've had more than our fair share of movies filmed here... born on the fourth of July, trip to bountiful, st. valentine's day masacre.... too many to name! This town is very humble and so are the people in it. We pretty much keep to ourselves... as a community, that is. Quiet and peaceful.. just the way I like it

It's called "The Jungle" because of the football team The Lions and no, not the Detroit Lions (ugh) but rather the high school team. This town is absolutely ape sh** over it's football teams and could care less about any other sport.

Funny you should say that. I was driving by the new super wal mart in the next town the other day and, low and behold, they're building a starbucks right next to it. You wouldn't have anything to do with that, would ya', trop?
