Christmas trees
So what type of tree do you put up at Christmas? Artificial or real? If real, what kind, like Balsam, Scotch, Norway, White pine????
For us it's artificial pre-lite, then we will decorate it with the ornaments, and garland.

Re: Christmas trees
8 cats and a big dog...I'd be a big fool to even consider putting up a tree! All my holiday decorating will be on the outside of the house.

I know that all too well. When we put up our tree, the one cat thinks that its her new place sleep. She like to sleep under the tree, behind the packages, or on top of them. She gets really mad if ya disturb her too. And then there's that batting of the ornaments that are hanging on the bottom of the tree.

Re: Christmas trees
With my cat & wolf, I'm just gonna spray some snow on a thistle, they're just gonna destroy it anyway. Also a word of advice, when I was 16 I cut a nice pine tree out of the Animal Hospital. That tree cost me $2,000.00. Trust me on this, buy one at the store, it's much cheaper.

Re: Christmas trees
Artificial. You couldn't tell, though. It has pine cones on it. Very realistic. And yes, with 5 dogs and Tater, we're constantly putting the ornaments back on. Obviously, it makes a great back scratcher for the dogs

We have a fake tree. I grew up with real ones though and loved the smell - it's the mess I can't stand.

I love the smell of the real thing too, and that's what I use outside, I cut down a small cedar or pine, and use the boughs with a few strings of lights and all my concrete garden cherubs and angels...it's low key, but a classic look for the old house I live in.

Low key and classic. Perfect choice!! Too many people these days get gaudy with their decorations. Especially the outdoor lights!

I used to do the whole, cut down the tree with the family, trim it with the wife and and kids, and make a festive day of it....but, now that i'm alone i just hack down a branch from a pine tree in the back yard, lean it up against the wall, and decorate it with tears........

Re: Christmas trees
artifical tree for now. I prefer the real trees, love the smell. Moved into old farm house this year with lots of trees on the property. Have a nice 10 foot pine in the yard to decorate and nice long wooden fence and gate to decorate also. (glad it's not decorated yet after the 50-60mph winds)

Re: Christmas trees
We have artificial trees througout the house. Little ones in the kiddos bedrooms and a huge one in the living room...which is prelit and absolutely beautiful, it is so real looking that the only things missing are the smell (allergies) and the pine needles (no vacuuming). Hmmm, why does someone like me need a real tree?

I saw the other day, a spray you buy, to give your tree that real tree smell...

Very cool, I'll try that out, I have a candle called Christmas Cypress and it smells pretty good but the spray would be better through the house.

ditto to that CKTC..artificial today but grew up with the real trees...fond memories of visiting the cornerside tree vendor and selecting the "perfect" tree with the family..and the real pine fragrance..the best..
but cleaning up after the cats and dogs and disposiing of that sucker...not so good.

yeah, that spray does work for awhile..but even better is to preprate you own pot of potpourri on the stove...just let it simmer and it infiltrates the whole house...

I've dug out my wreaths and lights, got plans this weekend for going out and finding a cedar tree to bring home so I can use the branches and boughs for my big front porch...I don't have to worry about bringing home a "live" tree, cedars grow fast and furious around here!
The cut branches will last long past he New Year's holiday.
