Awww geez, mom!!!!
When you were just a toddler or child, we're you ever subjected some rather unpleasant home or over the counter remedies for you childhood ills and ailments? Did you just hate the remedies, or did these efforts get you back up to your healthy standard?
Anytime I or my siblings got nausea from a childhood illness or a flu or cold, my mother would run right out to the neasest place that served fountian sodas, and bring back a cup of pure Coke syrup and feed it to us by the tablespoon.

Re: Awww geez, mom!!!!
Cod liver oil was the staple for us kids back in the winters of the 1950's and 1960's. My mother made us take it every day till spring.

I have to agree with Chazzy on this one. Pure Coke Syrup and Castor Oil were the most common household remedies in my day also.

For my mom it was, "Vicks Vapor Rub" and an old humidifier. That thing would put a layer of water on everything in the room by morning. Made getting out bed, an adventure in itself... You could sudo ice skate across the room with no trouble at all...

The minute any of us got sick, it was dad who would come in with Vicks vapo rub, & rub a layer of that crap & he would rub & rub that into our chest, until you felt like a greased pig. Then he would shove a bunch of that stinkin crap up our nose. Mom would pour chicken broth, or chicken noodle soup down us as fast as we could gulp it.

When I was sick while living at home, I was spoiled. She cleaned up after me, she gave me medicine, made sure I ate crackers, soup, whatever the case, etc.

I hated the calamine lotion treatment whenever I got poison ivy, I had school friends whose mothers used a diluted bleach and water solution, and they always recovered days sooner than I did.
