King (Queen) of your castle
What kind of "house rules" do you have in your home? What causes you to nag you co-habitators, squeezing the toothpaste tube from the middle, not replacing a roll of tush paper? How about when you have quests, do you allow them to smoke in your home, do you remind them to wipe their feet when you greet them at the door? Does a beverage without a coaster on your living room table cause you any alarm at all? How about things like "no telephone or TV during famly diner time?
Or are you the one getting nagged or have been nagged about all those "little things?"

Re: King (Queen) of your castle
No smoking in the house and whoever finishes the roll of tp, must replace it with a new roll-nobody likes using their hand.

A squirt gun will fix that...

No food or drink is allowed in the living room...I say, "Go to the kitchen table" at least 25 times a day.

Don't consider it to be house rules, but have some sort of pet peeves around the house just cuz I'm weird. That's about all for now I guess.

Can't tell you just yet, it's been 6 years, & me & my cat, "Buster" are still not decided just who's house it is. I remember buying it, but apparently everything in it is his. It's unbeliveable that a cat 2 feet long can stretch out enough to take up the entire space on a couch. I'll let you know when we get it worked out.

I don't like the talk to turn to politics when I have friends or family visiting, I want to enjoy my time with my company, not watch them argue!

I know how you feel. We have 2 cats and yes they think they own the whole place. Have to lay around them on the bed at night they take up most of it.

Dog & cat both think the position of "King" of the castle is theirs. I don't think I even come into the picture for consideration.

It is something how our animals take over the house. It's like they are letting us live there.

I'm thinking my only purpose in life should be to feed them, no matter what hour of the day it is when they get hungry, & to open the door for them every 90 seconds.

I'd love to have that rule at my house! Husband insists on having all his meals in either of the two rooms with a television, I'd love to sit down and dine at the dining table!

My kids probably feel like they are being smothered with love all the time. One of my favorite times of the day is when I wake them up, we call it "loving them up." Even if the morning is hectic my daughter insists on it...I may be the Queen but she is the Princess. My children exude compassion and love...I awlays say the good Lord gave them to be beautiful on the outside, it is my job to make them beautiful on the inside...what a blessing!!!

Very good point lilshelby, because tommorrow is not promised to any of us. So live life to the fullest everyday, and leave nothing unsaid.

Re: King (Queen) of your castle
Of course, all children should unconditionally have the security of being safe and loved in thier own homes.
Does anyone with children have house rules to provide them with that(silly question, of course you do!) rules like ...no smoking, no swearing, no fighting in front of them, etc....

that is a tough one Chazzy! try proposing dinner in the dining room 2 days a week or on a specific day every week..like Thursday..no tv..
the tv takes away from conversation and the building of intimacy between the two of you..
but it sure is a hard habit to overcome.

We don't smoke and I try to reserve swearing to rush hour after the kids are out of the car...mild arguements are OK in front of the kids because they need to know that in a relationship there is conflict, my parents never said a cross word to each other in front of us and when they divorced we were all in shock. The big problem I have is that I can be a bit "sassy" (I know, everyone is totally taken aback) so I have to be careful what I say and the inflection in my voice when I say it...

Re: King (Queen) of your castle
Our one standing rule is that the "things" are not more important than the "people" in the house.
Accidents are accidents - even my four year old will say, "It's okay mama I will get a towel" when something is spilled.
