what about a lighter, really when you think about it --- remember the words of Harrison Ford --- "It's an island baby, if you didn't bring it with you, you won't find it here."

You're suppose to cut wood off trees before you start them on fire?

You start a fire with tinder, dried moss, grass, then add kindling to build up the ambers and coals, then you would gather dead wood for a fire, at no time would you need to cut any green wood until you wanted nothing but smoke for an SOS signal....so while you do all that...I'm going to lib's side of the island.

Ok, fair enough. But if I come across a wild animal that looks like good eats... I'd much rather try to kill it and prepare it with a knife instead of my bare hands.
