Finicky!
Are you picky or finicky about any food, or the way it's served? Is there some little quirk you have, that if a sandwich or meal you're looking forward to, isn't done "right" will make you push it away cuz you just can't it it like that?
I, for one, am finicky about fruit, I can't eat it if it's bruised until I cut away the offending part of it...I can't eat an orange slice, unless I meticulously pick off every bit of the bitter orange stringy peeling stuff off of it...

Re: Finicky!
i'll generally eat anything.. even some things that shouldnt be edible. but i get seriously irritated when i pay money at a semi decent place for food that is worse than i could have made myself. the one i hate most is the maple syrup covered "glazed carrots" at some places.

Re: Finicky!
I'm not a very picky eater. But a apple has to be crisp, if it's even a little soft, then it's only good for target practice. But I won't touch beets or brussel sprouts. Anything else is fair game

Re: Finicky!
I'm with BCB on that. Also are the so called "gravies" in restaurants, whether beef, chicken, turkey, pork are never real & made from stock or drippings, but some shade of brown, powdered crap consisting mainly of starch, MSG and sodium and don't begin to resemble the taste or consistency that they should. My biggest "finicky" item is fresh meat at the grocery or the butcher. They have "leaned down" and toughened up the beef, lamb and pork to the point that most is inedible unless stewed or slow-cooked for a half a day. I remember tender, marbled beef and pork from my uncle's farms that melted in your mouth when I was a kid. What crap they're selling these days.

Re: Finicky!
Hm. I wont eat anything that has been near peppers. Because the pepper flavor is still on it if you cook with them even if you take them out of the dish. I hate peppers.

Re: Finicky!
After reading Tungs reply, I have to revise my statement. While I was in Japan & a few other places that had open street market places, they had fish & other meats hanging in the market place, I'm sure they were not U.S.D.A. inspected. There were so many flies hanging on them one could barely tell what kind of fish or meat you were looking at. I was always able to resist any meat in the open markets. Also many of the little eateries in the orients have a thing about adding fish eye balls in many of their soups. I won't eat anything thats looking at me.

Eggs, its hard to find a cook that will actually cook them. I hate runny eggs, if I wanted my eggs raw, I would crack one open and let it slide on down the pipe, kinda like those oysters.

Re: Finicky!
Oranges! It takes me an hour to eat 1. I have to do what you said, chazzy, except I get a little more extreme. I have to pull away the thin skin on each slice and only eat the pulp. Very messy, too.
When I was younger I couldn't stand for any food to mix on my plate. Nowadays, I find myself telling my kiddos what my mom always told me.... "It's all going to the same place. Eat it!"

my mom too, but by 8 or 9 I thought it was clever to come back with "yeah but I don't have tastebuds in my stomach". Don't remember the next few minutes after that, it's all a blur but I did have a red hand print on my face ---my mum was full blooded Irish from Ireland and had a right hook like Ali...

My mom too Tung, she had a little different twist to what moms now days call "Timeout", hers was more like "knockout". You had to be aware of what isle you were in before you said something smart. Whatever was close, she hit you with it. Toilet paper isle wasn't bad, but the canned soup isle could be painful. She'd whop you mmmmm good!

my youngest sister's like that -won't touch a glass of milk if it's been sitting out for even 5 min. -wants it ice cold or she says it makes her gag.

Hell, I can remember milking cows in the morning. We had a little tin cup hanging in the barn, Sometimes I'd squirt some in the cup & drink it.Now thats fresh milk, straight from the titty.

Well, don't think about it so singularly. Thing about it as "fungi"--or, in your case, you need to ask, "Who wants to eat a fun guy?"
