Askin Too Much!!
One of my employees came up to me today, & ask for some time off so he could get married, That's just about the limit. I mean either he wants to work, or play house. But I'm a nice guy , so I might give him 2-3 hours off if he comes in later & makes up the time. He also said something about taking her somewhere nice for the honeymoon. Maybe I'll offer to let them use my tent in the back yard . Or am I letting them take things too far??

Re: Askin Too Much!!
Is he an employee with a bad absentee record? If so, I'd give him a day or two off, let him and his fiance celebrate their special event...then afterwards, start coming down on him for his work ethics...
If he is otherwise a good employee....let 'em celebrate properly this huge milestone in his life...
Although, what he gave you was short notice? Do you already have policies for taking time off that all your employees are well aware of?
...and hang on here...I'm sure I'll get some rebuttals to my opinion on this!!

NRG - what is going on?
are you opposed to marriage?
are you saving him?
or
do you need to keep him at work?

I think you're being very reasonable, even generous to a fault. I'd demand 6 month's notice and wouldn't let 'em use the tent. God knows what's gonna go on in there! I'd have to burn it after that. No time off, get married on your damn lunch hour and ya better not be late coming back or you won't have a job here. This is a business buddy, not a charity organization! I can't believe he had the unmitigated gall to even think of asking this of you! Put your foot down NRG. Give 'em an inch and the next thing you know they'll be asking for a raise or something. The very nerve!

Re: Askin Too Much!!
First off, it's your business, you run it how you see fit. If ya want to give him time off, that's your choice and if your employee wants to get married, a little advance warning would be nice. The wife didn't get the day off when we got married. However, me, running my own business told ALL my customers what a prick he was, and banned him and his family, and boycotted his business for around 9 years, making him drive 100 miles to get his machines fixed. So there are pluses and minuses to all decisions...Like will you be the prick of the neighborhood ???

Re: Askin Too Much!!
When I posted this I was only kidding, thought a lot of you might even tell me how bad I was. It never even occurred to me that someone would actually take me serious.. He has been a good employee of mine for about 4 years, always there on time, ready to go. I'm giving him a week paid. But tung has me laughing so hzard, I can barely type, cuz my eyes are watering. Damn Tung thats some funny shit, it's like something I would have wrote. No shit, I'm laughing harder than I have in a long time, that's some funny stuff Tung. My hats off to ya

Am I missing or adding something here? It seems to me that this thread was supposed to be a joke kind of thing posted by NRG, but everyone's taking his inquiry seriously instead of playing off the joke. If I'm that far off NRG, I apologize and let me know as my reply was meant to be humorous.

I try to not assume anything, that's why I'll ask for more info...or just ask a few more questions.
I've seen allot of things right here on this site, and on these forums....it's not a stretch to think that someone maybe a little stressed and just needs to "vent".

No Tung, you're right on target. That is the funniest damn stuff I've read in a very long time.

Yes 40, I can see you got it by you comments and I apologize for saying "everyone". I shouldn't have made a blanket statement like that. I'd still have to burn the tent though and probably tear up the sod and replace it!

We understand tung. Wouldn't want you to catch those deadly marriage cooties. Maybe you should make sure you you have a crucifix while you do the ceremonial burning.

oh it's not the marriage thing 40, it's someone using my tent. Anything like the last time I went camping, it would HAVE to be burned! Crucifix would be a good idea though for for added protection.
