What is your absolutely favorite Main Dish for a meal?
I love meats, steak,, prime rib, pork chops, fish, chicken, duck, goose, lamb, etc., but my favorite (and I still make them in the colder months) are pasties (soft "a" -ha ha, not the little nipple caps that strippers use). They're originally a Cornish recipe of meat, potaoes, onions in a sealed pastry pie crust. My mom was Irish but made these a lot when I was a brat especially in the winter. I'm glad I was able to learn from her before she left us for good. The Cornish miners (1800s) used to take these to work with them for lunch, wrapped in a piece of cloth and stashed in their shirts to keep them a little warm. They were a good, carbo-filled self-contained, in a full crust, hand to mouth food. No utensils, no muss or fuss. If you want to "knife and fork it", they're great with ketchup or a gravy too. Anyone want mom's recipe, let me know.

Tung, you have my tongue on this one. I enjoy so many delicious foods from so many different cultures and countries. Due to the four seasons here, enjoying the wintered prepared foods with all the aromas of herbs and spices to the summer foods of grilled meats the list is endless. Now you are making my mouth water and hungry for one of those pasties your mom use to create. I would love to know how to prepare on of them, sounds yummy to me.

I make a great leg of lamb with mint sauce, or a nice thick buffalo steak, med rare, with "mary's crazy mixed up salt" & pepper for seasoning.

Re: What is your absolutely favorite Main Dish for a meal?
OK Tica and anyone else that wants to give 'em a try, my mom's pasties. (Again soft "a" jokers, this is my mother we're talking about here)
This recipe is for 2 people. Multiply as you need to
2 pie crusts (I use the Pillsbury ready made ones)
6 med potatoes (raw) peeled & diced about 1/4" cubes
1# ground chuck
1/2 c chopped onion
1/2 tsp dried parsley
" " coarse salt (sea or kosher)
" " black pepper
1 egg white
Mix all (minus the egg white) well in a large bowl breaking up the gr.chuck in tiny pieces close to the potatoe's size.
Lay pie crusts on an ungreased cookie sheet eyeballing them so when you fold them over later they'll be sort of centered on the sheet. Use a little dried corn meal under the crust if you have some, but it works without too.
Fill one half side of each crust with mixture, gently compressing ingredients together to eliminate any air spaces in the mass and leaving about a 1" border on the edge for sealing. Get as much as you can on each 1/2 crust. (If you have a little left over makes a good hash with eggs).
Moisten edge of dough with water and fold the 2 halves over and seal edges well. Poke the top center a couple times with a fork to let the steam out.
Brush crusts with egg white and sprinkle a pinch of coarse salt over each crust.
Bake at 425 40-50 min. until crust is nicely brown and a small knife inserted throught the top let's you know the potatoes are done.
Cool for 10 minutes and grab the ketchup!

No ketchup, but the rest of sounds awesome!
I like to experiment too, so I might come up with something new, as well, but the basic sounds wounderful, Tung!you need to add it to the WN recipe post!
I'll see if I can find it!
