Knowing all you know now, if you were 18 years old again, what would you do differently?
I know I wouldn't get married at nineteen again and have to struggle through college and a job with a wife and baby!

My journey in life has been complex...riddled with disappointment and yet blessed by great joy...I would not wish to change who I am, only how I arrived here. I would have guarded my heart more...I believe in true love but think that it was perhaps not meant for me.

QUOTE (Juilianna @ October 17, 2006, 00:59)My journey in life has been complex...riddled with disappointment and yet blessed by great joy...I would not wish to change who I am, only how I arrived here. I would have guarded my heart more...I believe in true love but think that it was perhaps not meant for me. I don't agree with the fact that true love wasn't meant for you. I truly believe there is someone for everyone. But the challenge is finding them, or them finding you. It's a matter of chance, a roll of the dice so to speak. This is a big, big country, with many people, all with different habits & schedules. It's all timing. A matter of being in the right place at the right time. The lucky ones find the perfect mate, the rest of us, myself included, just didn't happen to be where we needed to be when we needed to be there. In my case The Military & marriage weren't to compatible, I was always being sent somwhere flying some mission for Uncle Sam. I just wasn't around to make a marriage work. When I did leave the military I chased the first good lookin blonde with big boobs , that batted her baby blue eyes at me, walked down the isle with her & bought a house. Should have looked a little more, when I was burned in 1991, laying in a bed at St. Elizebeth Burn Center, in more pain than I can describe, & at the lowest point in my life, my wife thinkingI would be a hideous looking scarred up freak, chose that time to leave. The other change I would have made is, when I went to flight school in the Air Force, I would have trained for a cargo jet, or troop carrier, instead of fighters. Then I could have easily gotten the job I had always wanted after I finished my stint in U.S.A.F. I thought I could walk into United Airlines, fill out a job app. & have the job before I left the building. I would have had I not been a fighter pilot. Wouldn't even consider me because of that. I was very dissappointed, knowing I've been higher & faster than most of their veteran pilots.

NRG4U, It sounds like you had the sort of job that most of us could only dream of having. But it just goes to show that whatever we achieve in this life, it's never really enough, the "grass is always greener on the other side".

Given the stuff I had been through and done, I wouldnt have known the people I know today. So I wouldnt have it any other way even if I wish I could go back in time and adjust a few of my mistakes.

Re: Knowing all you know now, if you were 18 years old again, what would you do differently?
i have actually asked myself this question a few times. (as i'm sure most have) i always come up with the answer of no. if i had gone straight to college after the army (like i was supposed to) i wouldn't have my lil red. if i had never joined the army, then my life would have taken a completely different path and i would never have met rhyun. (and no lil red either) so no. the choices good or bad, right or wrong. they have made my life (and me) into what it is today. and honestly, i like my life. (and me sometmes lol )

I would have at least listen to the advice given to me when it was most important!......Although the things that I have been through have made me who I am, (And I do love who I am).....I would have at least wanted a shorter ride to get there!....(meaning it took me too long to get it right!)

Re: Knowing all you know now, if you were 18 years old again, what would you do differently?
Yes, I would of changed at least one thing. I was engaged and broke it off because he was in the Army and was going to Germany. I did not want to leave my family. Prior to the Gulf War (early 90s) I found him again and we've been in touch ever since.
He was my first true love and still is to this day. I'm starting to go through a divorce with (my 2d) and miss him very much. It pains me for us to talk knowing I can't be with him.

This crosses my mind many times... the more I think about it, the more I now know that... I am the person I am today due to what I have experienced in life, and know what I want out of life now.

Good for you! That's where everyone needs to be at some point in their life, but many never achieve. To be able to sit still for a moment, look back and genuinely feel and know what you describe, and know where they've been, where they are now, and where they are going. It's a matter of maturing and growing instead of stagnating and rotting. How utterly horrible to even contemplate for a moment, getting to the point of being on our inevitable death bed some day and looking back with overwhelming regret on what (as far as most of us know) is the only life we will be given and we ended up screwing it up and throwing it all away.

Re: Knowing all you know now, if you were 18 years old again, what would you do differently?
there are some mistakes I've made that I would change, people I've hurt that I wouldn't, people I wished I'd never met, but as has been stated several times, I am who I am in spite of those mistakes, so I guess, I just wish I knew at 18 what I know now.

Reader's Digest Version: a note saying, "Will you call me?" (A heart where the "i" is) and a phone number, a two-year relationship, ending with a gun and a another note...
(P.S. There's a plot twist...She didn't shoot herself. The gun was me...)
