disappointment
i realize that i am very new to wn , but i need to tell someone about the kind of day i am having. this is NOT a request for money, sympathy, or even understanding. rather it is just a chance for me to complain and vent my disappointment about something. at 63 , i was to be involved in a smokers study. it was to pay me 2400 dollars, and anybody on social security that wasnt able to save money BEFORE retirement, can tell you how handy that money is. anyway, at the moment i was headed to take a shower, i get a call telling me that i was no longer invited to the study. it seems my blood pressure was a bit too high, nothing to be concerned about, just not to their standards. BUT, this past friday, it was ok. yeah, i know, get over it.........thanks for listening, .........

Re: disappointment
Hey, vent away anytime...it's a big let down I know, especially when some thing seemed to be right there in your pocket and then poof...it's gone...
Smokers study,eh? We all need to give that shit up.But its not only hard to do, it can be expensive as hell...
...And retirement! Never too early for all of us to be reminded about that, to plan aheah for it..

Re: disappointment
Ahhhhhhh...no problem. It seems like the older we get, the more we get disappointed. At least some people are getting social security. At our age not even sure they'll be any, so there is a bright side to everything...almost. We smoke too and giving it up isn't easy...I never even tried...yet. So just have fun while your here.

Re: disappointment
you may have what they call whitecoat syndrome? where your vitals go out of normal range when in a doctors office, but otherwise they are fine, if so, it is just a matter of slow deep breathing to relax you right before your tested, I have that and I just take 10 slow breaths, inhale from the stomach for for 4 seconds, hold it for 8 seconds, exhale for 7 seconds, repeat 10 times, I read that in a yoga manual learning to relax. Good luck to ya.

Re: disappointment
HH has a point. Every time I go to give blood, my blood pressure rises and my heart rate shoots up well above 100 bpm and they won't take it. Otherwise I'm fine. Just happens every time I'm near that damn needle!

Re: disappointment
One lesson I learned....
Why stress over something you have NO control of?.....Once you understand there isn't a thing you can do about it, then you can accept it, and move on!......

Re: disappointment
I have no idea what he's going through to tell you the truth. Well, in a way I can relate. I'm not old enough to think about retirement and SS.... then again, it's something we should ALL be thinking about! And Lev is absolutely right! By the time we're "of age," there won't be any SS to collect!
I'm told all the time not to stress out about things. Stress is in my nature. Always has been, always will be. I wish I could change that but I can't see it happenin'. I stress about paying bills, I stress about my kids going to college and going into debt to pay for it (not that I mind, I want what's best for them but hopefully they'll keep up the good work and get scholarships!).
How can a person not stress about "money" from time to time? Unless you're secure enough not to... and I don't think anybody really is unless you're Bill Gates and the like! lol Some of us just stress about it more than others... and I'm in the "more than others" category
Then there are the times when you just have to say "FUCK IT!"

Re: disappointment
Dave...how did you happen across this study? I'm sure there are more that you can apply and qualify for...not just a smoker's study...
Do some googling with keyword phrases like "Paid focus groups"
Then when you find some that seem promising, double check them by using the focus group's name in a google/groups search to make sure they aren't allot of complaints and problems associated with them.
