Freak Storm
I know that there arent many of us here in the Western NY area, but we got dumped on with snow yesterday. Where I am, we got 2 feet of wet heavy snow over night. The TV stations are calling it the equivalant of a snow hurricane. Trees and powerlines are down and most of the area has no power. I drive a Blazer and cound even make it home and had to turn around and spend the night at work. And even though we're used to this in Buffalo, we sure as hell arent used to it in early October! When I woke this morning, I went to go outside to get snow off my satellite dish and it was plastered so high against the front door that I couldnt open it. If any of you are weather freaks and want to see, let me know and I'll put my cam up to the window and show ya.

Re: Freak Storm
It's hard enough to "prepare" for such a storm even when you have an advanced warning. Was western NY caught off guard or did they know this was going to dump on them? I used to live on Lake Superior in MI and remember such storms that literally made everything (including the snow plows) come to a screaching halt.

Re: Freak Storm
Nope, completely unforeseen. Not only was it weird to see flurries in the afternoon, but it was a total whiteout last night. 105 miles of the thruway is shut down and basically, its a parking lot. Some people have been stuck there for 10 hours. I'd hate to be low on gas in that situation

I understand, we got hit with a freak storm this spring, tore it up, took down buildings, uprooted trees, people went without power for over a week...the deaths associated with the storm were all due to electrocution from the downed power lines.
With all the radar, meterology advancements, it's amazing we can still often wake up in a whole 'nother world sometimes.

Well it's about time somebody else got hit with this wacky weather. It's been par for the course the last couple of years here. We have been living up to our sub-slogan for years now, "If you don't like this New England weather, just wait a minute, It gets worse"...
