aloha & good morning - what's everyone got planned today? i've got to give an interview re: my illness to someone from hawaii university who is conducting a survey. she flew in from honolulu to the big island and is on her way to the house right now.

Good mornin' Tica, Jaback & all! 9 degrees here with a dusting of snow and there's a lot of competition at the bird feeder this morning. A pair of cardinals, nuthatches, chickadees, titmice, purple & house finches, and a pair of white crowned sparrows. (note to self: get another 25# sunflower seeds)

Ah!! I'm a bit of a bird watcher too! I love it when the snow birds start showing up in full force, and we have this one Pileated Woodpecker that over the years, has become pretty bold about showing up in my front yard.
(That reminds me, need to take down the hummingbird feeder...)

How lucky you are to have the Pileated visiting you! I'm not sure if they're still on the endangered species list but they are still quite rare. I haven't seen one in probably 30+ years. A very large woodpecker, maybe crow sized?

Yep, they are endangered, and they are beautiful.
This one is very large and has left his mark on several of our big old trees. He comes around about every morning.
Around here, allot of people call 'am woodhens.

Chaz, I saw one of the coolest things the other day. We have plenty of hawks around here but you mainly see them flying or on telephone polls. I was driving home the other day and saw one eating something on the side of the road. I slowed down and he was close enough that I could tell he was eating a rat. Too bad I didn't have my camera!!

The last time I had my little kitten outside, I noticed a big ole redtail was circling, it had even went for a practice swoop while I was picking her up to take her to saftey!

Hello people, my shoulders hurt, I poured 20 yards of concrete to day, but still was a nice day. On another note, last year I had a albino robin here all winter, funny, he didn't seem to be a outcast from the others. Chazzy, if you want to draw hummingbirds, cut a orange in two, & hang it from a tree, cut side down.

i had a good day today. went snorkeling at my favorite beach here in hawaii. hitched a ride with a sea turtle a couple of times...unreal - it is beautiful and people are so friendly. the sunset was a perfect painting as we listened to eric clampton. i see life differently now. it's just different.

Well, my daughter's team won their first game Saturday. 6 to 3, she scored 2 of those 6 points *boasting*  I kept my cool, didn't get into any fights... had a great time, even though I was a nervous wreck! I'll feel more comfortable this weekend... we're playing here at home
